Two 4-2 teams at Soldier Field, Chicago favoured by three and a model that has it a coin flip. The league's best rushing offence against a top-ten defence, the Patriots plus the points, and the props, scorers and slips for Patriots at Bears.
Two 4-2 teams on four days of rest
Thursday Night Football in Chicago kicks off at 1:15am UK time on Friday morning, 8:15pm Eastern, at Soldier Field, open air, on grass. Both teams are 4-2 and both had four days. New England beat the Jets 26-19 on Sunday; Chicago beat Atlanta 31-23. The market has Chicago by three at a total of 50.5, and the model has it closer than that. The full picture is on the game page.
The two teams are mirror images. Chicago run the ball better than anyone: 160.7 rushing yards a game, first in the league, and 406.7 total yards, fifth. New England score 22.7 points a game, 18th, and allow 18.8, fifth; Chicago score 25.0, 12th, and allow 19.8, sixth. New England's turnover margin is minus six, 30th in the league, the one number in the game that leans against them. The series is New England 2-1 with an average total of 46, and Chicago are 0-2 at home in it, the last a 19-3 New England win in Week 10 of 2024 with Chicago six-and-a-half-point favourites. Every number for the two sides is on the Patriots stats and Bears stats pages.
Where the game is won
The matchup grid is close on every unit. New England passing against Chicago's pass defence is a 56% Patriots edge, and New England running against Chicago's eighth-ranked run defence is 52% New England. Chicago passing against New England's pass defence is an even 50%, and Chicago running against the Patriots' ninth-ranked run defence is 57% Chicago. The Bears rushing page shows who carries the best ground game in the league, and the Patriots receiving page shows who Drake Maye throws to.
The projections: Maye 237 passing yards, 1.6 touchdowns and 33 rushing yards; Caleb Williams 211 passing yards and 1.4 touchdowns; D'Andre Swift 51 rushing yards on 12 carries; Rhamondre Stevenson 49.5 on 11. A.J. Brown, projected at 73 receiving yards, is questionable for New England, and Chicago have Kyle Monangai and Luther Burden III on the questionable list. Chicago are without cornerback Zah Frazier; New England are without safety Brenden Schooler and tight end Julian Hill, and Harold Landry III is on the physically-unable list. Both depth charts are live and the injury table updates until kick-off.
The model's number
The model has New England 25.1, Chicago 24.7, a 49.7 total, and Chicago winning 49 times in 100. The market has Chicago by three, so the model and the market are about three and a half points apart on the side. New England plus three and a half at 1.83 on Kalshi is a 58% model call against 54.5% implied, four stars, and a half-point bet. New England on the moneyline at 2.53 on Polymarket is a 45.4% call against 39.5%, three stars, a quarter. The under at 50.5 at 2.02 is a 50% call, one star: the model total is 49.7 and the market has it, so there is no opinion on the total. Both teams' records against the line are on the Patriots ATS and Bears ATS pages.
- Patriots +3.5 at the Bears — Spread, NE @ CHI, Fri 1:15am UK / Thu 8:15pm ET — at 1.83 — The model has it a coin flip. The half-point hook over the market's three is part of the price. Game preview
- Patriots to win — Moneyline, NE @ CHI — at 2.53 — A 45% shot at better than 3/2 on the road. Game preview
Scorers, props and the slips
The props board is two stories: Chicago's offence goes through its running game and its tight end, and one New England receiver is underpriced. Caleb Williams under 245.5 passing yards at 1.86 is projected at 211, a 63% model call, five stars. D'Andre Swift under 14.5 carries at 1.86 is projected at 12, 63%, five stars. Colston Loveland under 4.5 receptions at 1.71 is projected at 3.3, 67%, and Loveland under 44.5 receiving yards at 1.86 is projected at 38.5, 60%, both five stars. On the New England side, Efton Chism III over 20.5 receiving yards at 1.86 is projected at 47, a 64% call, five stars, and Kyle Williams under 1.5 receptions at 1.68 is projected at 1.0, 67%.
The scorer board is mostly a fade board. D'Andre Swift at 1.58 to score is a 42% model call priced at 63%, and Rhamondre Stevenson at 1.86 is a 37% call priced at 54%. The exception is Chism at 5.25, a 25% call against 19% implied, three stars: a receiver with 47 projected yards and a 5/1 price. The Single Game Parlays page has no slip on this game this week.
- Efton Chism III over 20.5 receiving yards — WR, NE — at 1.86 — Projected 47 yards against a line of 20.5. Game preview
- Caleb Williams under 245.5 passing yards — QB, CHI — at 1.86 — Projected 211. Chicago run the ball better than anyone. Game preview
- Colston Loveland under 4.5 receptions — TE, CHI — at 1.71 — Projected 3.3 catches in an offence that runs. Game preview
The verdict
A coin flip the market has at three points is a bet on the points, and half a point is the size of it. The props are the cleaner edge: Chism over, Williams and Loveland under. Chicago's running game is the one unit the grid gives clearly to either side, 57% Chicago, which is why the Williams and Swift unders are the model's read of how the game is played. Last week's Thursday landed: Denver won 17-14 in overtime, and the plus points and the moneyline at 2.30 both came in.
The news to watch is A.J. Brown. If he is ruled out before the 1:15am kick-off, the targets he leaves go to the rest of the New England receivers and the side becomes a pass.
