The league's top-ranked team at 5-0 against a Washington defence allowing 30 a game, with Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk both out. The model has San Francisco by ten, the market by seven and a half. The props, scorers and slips for Commanders at 49ers.
A 5-0 team with no wide receivers to speak of
Monday night in Santa Clara kicks off at 1:15am UK time on Tuesday morning, 8:15pm Eastern, at Levi's Stadium, open air, on grass. San Francisco are 5-0 and top of the power rankings: the third-ranked offence at 30.8 points a game, the third-ranked defence at 18.6 allowed, a 51.9% third-down rate that is the best in the league, and a 32-29 win against Seattle on Sunday. Washington are 1-3-1, tied 27-27 with the Giants after overtime, and allow 29.8 points a game, 30th, and 268.8 passing yards, 29th. Both teams had eight days. The market has San Francisco by seven and a half at a total of 50.5.
The series is San Francisco 3-1 with an average total of 35.3, three of the four unders, and the last meeting, in Week 17 of 2023, was a 27-10 San Francisco win. This is a different San Francisco: the 49ers are without both Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. The full numbers for each side are on the 49ers stats and Commanders stats pages, and the game page has the model.
Where the game is won
The matchup grid has two San Francisco edges and one Washington edge. San Francisco passing against Washington is an 82% 49ers edge, the biggest unit matchup on the field. Washington passing against San Francisco is a 76% 49ers edge. Washington running against the San Francisco front is a 54% Commanders edge, the only one on the board: Washington run for 139.6 yards a game, sixth, and San Francisco rush for 128.6, eighth, with the run-game matchup rated an even 50% on the other side. The Commanders rushing and 49ers receiving pages show who carries each side.
With Aiyuk and Samuel out, the 49ers' receiving work goes to Mike Evans and George Kittle, and the model has Kittle at 16.5 fantasy points and Evans at 17.2. Washington's Marcus Mariota is doubtful with a knee and Jayden Daniels is the quarterback on the model's board; Stefon Diggs is questionable with a hamstring and Luke McCaffrey is out. San Francisco are also without linebacker Garret Wallow and have Hodge questionable at receiver. Both depth charts are live and the injury table updates until kick-off.
The model's number
The model has San Francisco 29.7, Washington 19.4, a 49.0 total and the 49ers winning 78 times in 100. The market has them by seven and a half and the moneyline at about 1.24. That is a gap of under three points on the side and a point and a half on the total, which is the smallest disagreement of the week among the primetime games. San Francisco minus six and a half at 1.77 on Polymarket is a 58.8% model call against 56.5% implied, two stars; the under at 51.5 at 1.87 on Polymarket is a 54.6% call against 53.5%, two stars. No bet on either.
The game is a props game, and the props have a theme: the 49ers' defence should not need their quarterback to throw it all over the place, and Washington have to run. Jayden Daniels over 6.5 carries at 2.00 is projected at 9.7, a 62% model call, five stars. Kaelon Black under 0.5 receptions at 2.20 is projected at 0.4, 58%, five stars. Brock Purdy under 2.5 passing touchdowns at 1.54 is projected at 1.8, 69%, four stars, and Rachaad White over 5.5 carries at 2.05 is projected at 6.7, 53%, a four-star at a thinner edge.
- Jayden Daniels over 6.5 carries — QB, WSH — at 2.00 — Projected 9.7 carries for a quarterback on a team that is a touchdown-plus underdog. Game preview
- Kaelon Black under 0.5 receptions — RB, SF — at 2.20 — Projected 0.4. The backup back is a runner, and the 49ers have receivers to throw to. Game preview
- Brock Purdy under 2.5 passing touchdowns — QB, SF — at 1.54 — Projected 1.8. A short price with a real edge: the model has San Francisco winning by ten. Game preview
Scorers, props and the slips
Christian McCaffrey at 1.34 to score is a 62% model call priced at 75%: the short price, the fade. Mike Evans at 1.74 is a 47% call priced at 57%, and George Kittle at 2.05 is a 45% call against 49%, about fair. The scorers the model likes are on the Washington side: Jacory Croskey-Merritt at 2.65 is a 42% call against 38%, and Jayden Daniels at 3.35 is a 33% call against 30%. Daniels' number is the quarterback-run touchdown the market leaves in the corner.
The NFL Parlays page has two Monday editions. The Primetime Parlay at 5.82 is Kittle over 59.5 receiving yards at 1.72, Croskey-Merritt over 39.5 rushing yards at 1.82 and McCaffrey under 37.5 receiving yards at 1.86, the model at 19.1% against 17.2% implied, a quarter of a point. The One Passing Game at 69.89 is Kittle to score at 2.05, Kittle over 99.5 receiving yards at 4.70, Mike Evans over 68.5 receiving yards at 1.86 and Purdy over 299.5 passing yards at 3.90, 6.9% against 1.4%, a tenth. The Single Game Parlays page carries the same script in two shorter forms: the One Passing Game at 108.16 and the Second Receiver Ceiling at 76.99, both 0.1 of a point, both built on a San Francisco passing game with Aiyuk and Samuel gone. The slip is a script and the single is a line: the over-300 slips need Purdy throwing a lot, and the touchdowns-under single does not.
- Primetime Parlay, WSH @ SF — Kittle o59.5 rec · Croskey-Merritt o39.5 rush · McCaffrey u37.5 rec — at 5.82 — The published Monday edition. Three legs on a game where San Francisco lean on their tight end. Game preview
- One Passing Game, WSH @ SF — Kittle TD · Kittle o99.5 rec · Evans o68.5 rec · Purdy o299.5 — at 69.89 — A tenth on the 49ers throwing 300 with Aiyuk and Samuel out. Game preview
The verdict
San Francisco are the better team by every number and the market has them at the right price, so there is no side. The bets are on the props: the Daniels carries, the Black receptions, the Purdy touchdown under, and a tenth on the passing-game script. The news to watch is Mariota's knee and the Washington line: if Daniels is hurt on Sunday, the carries leg is gone and the game is a pass.
The FanTeam Monday contest is £89m for six players. The optimiser captains Christian McCaffrey at £18.7m for 21.0 projected points, with the cheapest seat in the pool, Treylon Burks at £4.9m, as vice-captain, then Jayden Daniels (£15.8m, 20.1, the best value on the board at 1.27 per £1m), Brock Purdy, Mike Evans and George Kittle for 109.6 projected points at £89.0m. The FanTeam optimiser has the week.
