The Rams scored seven in Melbourne and the model still has them by nine. Why it trusts last season over last week, the over, the Rams with the points, the Stafford under and the scorers for Giants at Rams.
One week of tape against one season of it
Monday Night Football closes Week 2 at SoFi Stadium on 21 September, 8:15pm Eastern, 01:15 BST on Tuesday, under the roof. The Rams arrive as the league's 32nd-ranked offence after one week: seven points and 290 yards in the loss to San Francisco in Melbourne, 22% on third down. The Giants arrive off a 28-20 win over Dallas in which they converted 81.8% of their third downs, the best in the league, and ran for 165 yards. If you built a preview from Week 1 alone, the Giants would be favourites.
The model does not build it from Week 1 alone, and this is the game where that matters most. Los Angeles scored 30.5 a game last season, first in the league, and the forward power rankings still have them fourth against the Giants 25th. One bad night at the end of a 15-hour flight moves the projection a little; it does not turn the best offence in football into the worst. The Rams have also had ten days to think about it, against seven for New York, and they have won all three meetings in the series, though the Giants have covered two.
Where the game is won
The matchup grid, which is built on the tape, leans the Giants' way almost everywhere: New York's run game against a Rams front that allowed 174 rushing yards in Melbourne is an 87% Giants edge, and the Rams' passing game against a Giants secondary that allowed 175 yards is a 74% Giants edge. The one Rams number is their pass defence against Jaxson Dart, a 55% Giants lean, which is the closest thing to a Rams edge on the grid. Read that honestly: the matchup grid and the model disagree about this game, and the grid has one week of data.
The projected usage is where the model shows its hand. Matthew Stafford projects 240 passing yards and 1.7 touchdowns, Davante Adams 8.4 targets and 4.9 catches, Dart 213 yards and 1.4 touchdowns with 40 on the ground. The Rams score 29.6 in that projection because the model has them running, not throwing, against a Giants defence that ranked fifth against the run in Week 1. The injury report has Myles Garrett out for Los Angeles, which is the biggest single absence on either side and a real cost to the Rams' pass rush. The Giants have receiver Gunner Olszewski and two defenders on injured reserve.
The model's number
Rams 29.6, Giants 20.7. Los Angeles by 8.9 and a 50.3 total, the Rams winning 74.5 times in 100. The market has the Rams by seven to seven and a half, a total of 47.5 to 48 and a home moneyline of 1.36, which implies 73.5%. The model and the market agree on the winner almost exactly; they disagree by a point and a half on the margin and by nearly three on the total.
The over 47.5 at 1.98 on Polymarket is a 58.4% model call against 50.5% implied, five stars, and it is the bet: two offences the model projects at 30 and 21, in a dome, against a number set by the memory of a 7-27 game. The Rams minus seven and a half at 2.15 on Polymarket is a 54.1% call against 46.5%, four stars, plus money on a side the model has covering by a point and a half. The moneyline at 1.36 is fair and rates one star, so there is no reason to pay for it.
- Over 47.5 points — Total, NYG @ LAR, Mon 8:15pm ET / Tue 01:15 BST — at 1.98 — Model total 50.3. The market priced the Rams' seven points in Melbourne; the model priced their 2025 season.
- Rams -7.5 v the Giants — Spread, NYG @ LAR — at 2.15 — Model has it a nine-point game. Plus money on the favourite, with ten days' rest.
Scorers, props and the slip
The scorer board has two prices worth a look and one to avoid. Jaxson Dart at 3.50 to score is a 43% model call against 29% implied, the biggest gap on the board: 40 projected rushing yards and a quarterback the Giants use at the goal line. Cam Skattebo at 2.25 is a 45% call and fair. Kyren Williams at 1.68 is a 47% call against 60% implied and the fade: the model has the Rams scoring a lot, but not through him at that price. Davante Adams at 2.10 (44%) and Puka Nacua at 2.05 (39%) are both shaded under their prices.
The star-rated prop is Stafford under 249.5 passing yards at 1.86, five stars, projected 240 with a 59% under. That sits oddly next to an over on the game total, so here is the reconciliation: the model has the Rams scoring on the ground and the Giants scoring through Dart's legs, with neither quarterback needing 250. Adams over 3.5 receptions at 1.80 is projected at 4.9 with a 72% over, the softest number in the game. Malik Nabers under 65.5 receiving yards (projected 56) and Blake Corum under 47.5 rushing yards (projected 38) are the unders on the board.
The Single Game Parlays page has one slip, Second Receiver Ceiling at 57.33: Stafford over 299.5 passing yards, Adams to score and Adams over 89.5 receiving yards. The correlation model makes it 6.6% against 1.7% implied. It is the version of the night where Stafford throws for 300, which is the version the single prop bets against, so it is a 0.15pt script rather than a companion to the Stafford under.
- Matthew Stafford under 249.5 passing yards — QB, LAR — at 1.86 — Projected 240. The Rams score on the ground in this projection, not through 300-yard nights.
- Davante Adams over 3.5 receptions — WR, LAR — at 1.80 — Projected 4.9 catches on 8.4 targets. Volume, not yards, is the safe Rams prop.
- Jaxson Dart anytime TD — QB, NYG — at 3.50 — The biggest scorer gap on the board. Forty projected rushing yards and the goal-line role.
- Fade: Kyren Williams anytime TD — RB, LAR — at 1.68 — A 47% call priced at 60%. The Rams score in this projection; the price assumes it is always him.
The verdict
Rams by nine in a game that goes over. The over is the bet, the Rams with the points are the second, the Stafford under and the Adams receptions are the props, and Dart is the scorer. The honest caveat is the one this whole preview is built on: the model is trusting a season over a week, and if the Rams' offence in Melbourne was the real one, both bets lose. The market has priced that possibility at about seven points. The model thinks it is worth about a point and a half.
