Texans at Chargers Preview: Week 9 Sunday Picks, Odds and Projections

Published November 5, 2026 by Statz NFL.

Houston are 4.5-point favourites at the 0-7 Chargers, with the model at 2.8 and Los Angeles on offer at plus 5.5. The Texans at Chargers numbers, scorers and props for the 9:05pm UK game.

Winless, and 4.5 points short

Sunday's late game is Houston at Los Angeles, kicking off at 9:05pm UK time, 4:05pm Eastern, at SoFi Stadium, a dome with a Matrixturf surface. The Chargers are 0-7, fourth in the AFC West, and have lost all six of the games listed on the sheet: 14-26 to Las Vegas, 16-24 to Buffalo, 23-30 to Seattle, 17-23 to Denver, 6-22 to Kansas City and 9-24 to the Rams last week. The Texans are 2-5, second in the AFC South, 2-4 over their last six, and lost 27-21 to the Giants last week after beating Tennessee 26-3 and Jacksonville 34-31. The market has Houston by 4.5 at a total of 40.5. The full picture is on the game page.

The series favours Houston: 4-1, with the Texans four from five against the spread and the over 3-2, for an average total of 51 across the five meetings. Houston won the last meeting 20-16 in Week 17 of 2025 in Los Angeles, where the Chargers were 1.5-point favourites, and the 2024 wild-card game 32-12. The Chargers' win was a 34-24 game in 2022. The Chargers are 0-2 at home in the series. The seasons explain the line. Los Angeles score 14.1 points a game, last in the league, and sit 28th in yards a play at 5.1, while Houston score 23.6, 12th, and throw for 266.7 yards, seventh. The other side is the Chargers' pass defence, which allows 207.7 yards a game, fifth, against a Houston defence that allows 262.7, 28th. The numbers are on the Texans stats and Chargers stats pages.

Where the game is won

The grid is the argument for the home side. Houston running against Los Angeles is a 71% Chargers edge, because Houston run for 84.7 yards a game, 29th. Houston passing against Los Angeles is only a 52% Chargers edge, a coin flip against that fifth-ranked pass defence. Los Angeles passing against Houston is a 62% Chargers edge, and Los Angeles running against Houston is a 59% edge for the Texans, whose run defence allows 98.0 yards a game, 11th. The Texans passing page shows where their yards come from.

The injury lists are long. Houston have four running backs out: David Montgomery (groin), Joe Mixon, Jawhar Jordan and Noah Whittington (quadriceps). Woody Marks, who is not on the report, is projected at 19.0 carries and 70.2 yards. Reed Blankenship (concussion), Azeez Al-Shaair (groin), Braden Smith (ankle) and Brevin Jordan (finger) are questionable, and Jimmie Ward and Kurt Hinish are out. Tank Dell, Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins are on injured reserve, so none of their props is used here. Los Angeles are thin up front: Rashawn Slater, Trey Pipkins III, Trevor Penning and Tyler Biadasz are on injured reserve, Isaiah World is out, Kayode Awosika and Austin Deculus are questionable, and Brenen Thompson is doubtful. David Njoku is on injured-reserve return, and Donte Jackson, Rodney Shelley and Deane Leonard are questionable at corner. Check the injury table and the Chargers depth chart on Sunday.

The model's number

The model has Houston 22.9, Los Angeles 20.1, a 43.0 total, and the Texans winning 58.2 times in 100. That is Houston by 2.8 against a market of 4.5, and it puts 20.1 on a Chargers offence that averages 14.1, which is worth saying out loud: the model is not blind to the 0-7 record, but it is asking Los Angeles for six points above their season rate. The cushion is the bet. Chargers plus 5.5 at 1.98 on Polymarket is a 54.2% call against 50.5%, four stars, half a point. The Chargers on the moneyline at 3.08 on Kalshi is 37.1% against 32.8%, three stars, a quarter of a point; that price is rated a little below the model's own 41.8% win chance. Houston on the moneyline at 1.50 is rated 62.4% against 67.2% and gets no stars.

The total is a two-star lean: over 40.5 at 2.02 on Polymarket is 51.7% against 49.5%, with the model 2.5 points above the line. It is not a card. Both teams' records against the line are on the Texans ATS and Chargers ATS pages.

  • Chargers +5.5 v the Texans — Spread, HOU @ LAC, Sun 9:05pm UK / 4:05pm ET — at 1.98 — The model has Houston by 2.8; the line is 5.5. Game preview
  • Chargers to win — Moneyline, HOU @ LAC, Sun 9:05pm UK / 4:05pm ET — at 3.08 — A 37% shot at better than 2/1 for a 0-7 side. Game preview

Scorers, props and the slips

On the scorers, Omarion Hampton at 3.40 is a 37.2% call against 29.4% implied, the only price in his favour, which makes him the best of three. Nico Collins at 2.45 is 33.9% against 40.8%, and Woody Marks at 1.95 is 35.4% against 51.3%, a 16-point miss. The model will take Hampton's touchdown, and his carries: over 8.5 at 2.05 on bet365 is projected at 12.0, 61.1% against 45.9%, five stars. Kimani Vidal under 24.5 rushing yards at 1.86 is projected at 20.0, 61.5% against 50%, five stars, and his under 7.5 carries (5.1 projected) is the same view; Keaton Mitchell over 3.5 carries at 1.90 (5.3 projected) is a five-star over as well. Most of these gaps are more than ten points, Hampton's carries 15.2, wide enough that the model may be missing news, so check the backfield and offensive-line reports before staking.

In the Houston passing game, C.J. Stroud under 248.5 passing yards at 1.86 is projected at 223.2, 60.3% against 50%, five stars. Nico Collins under 5.5 receptions at 1.66 is projected at 3.9 on 6.1 targets, 67.6% against 57%, five stars, and the same read is behind Marvin Harrison Jr. under 2.5 receptions (1.7 projected) and Marks under 12.5 receiving yards (9.0). Ladd McConkey under 3.5 receptions at 2.05 is projected at 2.8, 58.8% against 45.9%, five stars.

The one slip is the Second Receiver Ceiling at 19.86: Justin Herbert over 195.5 passing yards at 1.86, Quentin Johnston over 49.5 receiving yards at 3.05 and over 3.5 receptions at 3.50. The model has it at 8.0% against 5.0% implied, a quarter of a point. It is a script: Herbert is projected at 222.7 yards, but Johnston is at 35.5 yards, 2.4 catches and 4.2 targets, so the slip needs him well above his projection. The unders on the Houston pass-catchers are lines, and the slip is a story.

  • C.J. Stroud under 248.5 passing yards — QB, HOU, Sun 9:05pm UK / 4:05pm ET — at 1.86 — Projected 223.2 yards. Game preview
  • Kimani Vidal under 24.5 rushing yards — RB, LAC, Sun 9:05pm UK / 4:05pm ET — at 1.86 — Projected 20.0 yards on 5.1 carries. Game preview
  • Omarion Hampton over 8.5 carries — RB, LAC, Sun 9:05pm UK / 4:05pm ET — at 2.05 — Projected 12.0 carries. Game preview
  • Nico Collins under 5.5 receptions — WR, HOU, Sun 9:05pm UK / 4:05pm ET — at 1.66 — Projected 3.9 catches. The price already asks for a lot. Game preview

The verdict

The model has Houston by under three and the market by four and a half, so the side is a small edge: the Chargers at plus 5.5 for half a point, the moneyline for a quarter, and nothing on a total the model rates at two stars. The case against is a team that has scored 17 or fewer in five of its six games on the sheet. The case for is that the price already knows it. The news to watch is the Chargers' offensive line and Houston's backfield, because the model's numbers for Marks and Herbert sit on top of them.
