The model has the Bears winning and the market has the Eagles by four and a half, and the gap is a hamstring: Caleb Williams is doubtful. Why every big edge in this game rates zero, the one prop that does not, and the slip for Eagles at Bears.
A quarterback-shaped hole in the projection
Monday Night Football closes Week 3 at Soldier Field on 28 September, 8:15pm Eastern, 01:15 BST on Tuesday. Philadelphia are 2-0 with two four-point wins, over Washington and Tennessee, and a power ranking of 20th that says the model is not impressed. Chicago are 1-1, 59-37 winners in Carolina and 9-3 losers at home to Minnesota, and they lead the league in rushing at 212.5 yards a game with the sixth-best scoring offence. They are also without Caleb Williams, listed doubtful with a hamstring, and the model's projection for this game has Tyson Bagent at quarterback.
The series is four straight unders, at an average of 37.8 points, and Philadelphia lead it 3-1. Chicago won the last meeting 24-15 in December as seven-point underdogs. Both teams are on eight days' rest.
Where the game is won
On the matchup grid Philadelphia have the edges: their passing game against a Bears secondary allowing 252 yards a game is a 71% Eagles edge, and their run game against Chicago's run defence is 66%. The Bears' one number is the big one: their run game, first in the league, against an Eagles run defence allowing 127 yards a game is a 78% Bears edge. D'Andre Swift is questionable with an ankle, which puts Kyle Monangai into the projection at 40 rushing yards.
The projections have Jalen Hurts at 219 passing yards, 1.4 touchdowns and 35 on the ground, and Bagent at 210 yards and one touchdown. The Eagles' pass defence, allowing 173.5 yards a game, ranks fifth, and it is facing a backup. That is the case for the favourite. The case for the Bears is that the model has them scoring 24 on the ground whoever is throwing, and that four straight unders in this fixture say Chicago keep it close by keeping it short.
The model's number, and why none of it is a bet
Bears 24.3, Eagles 22.5. Chicago by 1.8 at home, a 46.8 total, the Bears winning 55 times in 100. The market has Philadelphia by four and a half, a 41.5 total and an Eagles moneyline of 1.55. The model disagrees with the market by six points on the spread and five on the total, and both disagreements rate zero stars: the Bears plus four and a half is a 68% model call, the over 41.5 is a 66% call, and both gaps are far past the band the record supports.
Here is what the zero means, plainly. The market has priced Caleb Williams out and the model has priced Bagent in, and they have reached different conclusions about what that costs. Our own record says that when the model is this far from the market on a primetime line, the model is usually the one that has not heard the news. The news here is public and the model has heard it; what it has not done is agree with the market about its size. That makes this a lean, and a quarter point is what a lean is worth: Bears plus four and a half at the best price, or the moneyline at 2.56 on Polymarket if you would rather be paid properly for being right.
- Bears +4.5 v the Eagles — Spread, PHI @ CHI, Mon 8:15pm ET / Tue 01:15 BST — at 1.94 — The model has Chicago winning outright with a backup quarterback. A 19-point raw edge that the star rating refuses. A quarter point, as a lean.
- Bears to win — Moneyline, PHI @ CHI — at 2.56 — The same lean at a price that pays for it. Not both.
Scorers, props and the slip
The one thing in this game the model rates at five stars is Kyle Monangai under 41.5 rushing yards at 1.86: projected 40, a 63% under, in a backfield where Swift is questionable. If Swift plays, Monangai is the change of pace and the under is comfortable; if Swift sits, Monangai is the lead back and the line moves before you can bet it. Check the designation on Saturday. D'Andre Swift to score at 2.10 is a 46% call and fair; Saquon Barkley at 1.86 is projected at 7.3 points a game on the season rate, which is a running back the model has stopped believing in at that price.
The Single Game Parlays page has two slips: a Primetime Parlay at 4.80 from the game's four likeliest props (legs on the page for members), and Second Receiver Ceiling at 43.85: Jalen Hurts over 274.5 passing yards with Makai Lemon to score and over 27.5 receiving yards, 7.4% against 2.3% implied. Hurts throwing for 275 is the Eagles-blow-it-open script, which is the one the model rates least likely, so 0.15pt is the right size and the honest one.
- Kyle Monangai under 41.5 rushing yards — RB, CHI — at 1.86 — Projected 40 with Swift active. If Swift is ruled out, the line moves and so should you.
- Second Receiver Ceiling slip — Hurts o274.5 pass yds + Lemon TD + Lemon o27.5 rec yds — at 43.85 — The Eagles-throw-it-open script, priced at three times its implied chance by the correlation model.
The verdict
A field-goal game either way in the low forties, which is what this fixture has been for four years. There is no five-star game bet here and I am not going to invent one. Take the Bears as a quarter-point lean if Williams is confirmed out and the line does not move, take the Monangai under if Swift is confirmed in, and let the rest go. The card had seven five-star picks on Sunday; Monday does not need a forced eighth.
