Hit rates, projections and matchups — a repeatable 10-minute routine for researching any prop line.
Start with the recent window
A prop line is a claim about one game, and recent usage is its best predictor. Check how often the player cleared the number in his last five to ten — and check the games where he missed. A 70% hit rate with misses in blowouts tells you the risk is game script, not talent.
Cross-check the projection
A hit rate is history; a projection is a forecast that already knows the opponent. When the model's projected line sits well above the book's number, the over has margin for error. When they agree, the market has it priced — most lines, most weeks, are priced.
Respect the matchup
Position-split defense matters: a defense can be stout against the run and a sieve to slot receivers. The strength-of-schedule lenses show which units bleed to which positions before you trust a season-average number.
Mind the participation trap
Averages hide zeros. A player who logged special-teams-only games has his per-game numbers diluted; our windows only count games where the player had a real role — pass attempts, carries or targets. Do the same in your own research.
