FanTeam NFL Gameweek 5: Six Weekly Contests, the First Byes, and the Value List

The six FanTeam contests this week (Thursday in Dallas, London, the Sunday RedZone, the late-games Fumble, Sunday night, Monday night) with the Statz optimiser's lineups, the two teams on bye and what that does to the season game, the twenty names on the injury sheet, and the value list for your transfers.

Six contests, and the one number to know in each

FanTeam run six one-off contests this week alongside the season game, and the Statz optimiser builds a lineup for each. Four are six-player single-game contests with a captain at 1.5 times and a vice-captain at 1.2 times who costs 1.2 times his price: Cowboys v Buccaneers on Thursday for £91m, Jaguars v Eagles in London for £83m, Falcons v Ravens on Sunday night for £93m and Rams v Bills on Monday night for £97m. Two are nine-player classic lineups: the Sunday RedZone over all eleven Sunday games for £113m, and the Sunday Fumble over the three late games for £107m, three players per club in both.

The number to know: Jahmyr Gibbs projects at 28.6 points in Arizona, the highest number of the week by a distance, at £21.5m on the RedZone and Fumble boards, 1.33 points per £1m. Detroit's passing game is second in the league and Arizona allow 29.3 a game, and Gibbs has scored in every one of his last five. He is the first name in both classic lineups. The next best projection anywhere is Josh Allen at 21.9 on Monday night, then Trey McBride at 21.5 and Jaxon Smith-Njigba at 21.9 on the Sunday boards.

The model's lineups

Thursday: CeeDee Lamb captain (£18.1m, 19.0 projected), Dak Prescott vice-captain (£18.5m, 18.0), Jalon Daniels (£14.6m, 16.5), Javonte Williams (£16.8m, 16.4), Ryan Flournoy (£9.6m, 9.4) and Cade Otton (£9.7m, 9.4), 101.8 projected points for the full £91m. Daniels, making his first start, is the best value on the board at 1.13 points per £1m. London: Jalen Hurts captain (£14.9m, 18.5), Bhayshul Tuten vice-captain (£12.8m, 15.9), Trevor Lawrence (£16.5m, 16.2), DeVonta Smith (£12.6m, 13.6, questionable), Parker Washington (£13.8m, 12.9) and Dontayvion Wicks (£9.3m, 9.4), 98.9 points for £82.5m; Hurts and Tuten at 1.24 per £1m each are the two best values in any contest this week.

The RedZone: Jayden Daniels (£16.4m, 19.2, questionable with the elbow), Quinshon Judkins (£12.0m, 15.2), Braelon Allen (£10.3m, 13.0), Michael Wilson (£15.1m, 18.3), Tee Higgins (£13.1m, 16.8, questionable), Kalif Raymond (£10.2m, 10.9), Isaiah Likely (£12.3m, 16.2, questionable), Trey McBride in the flex (£16.7m, 21.5) and the Raiders defence (£6.7m, 5.3), 136.4 points for £112.8m. Three questionables in one lineup is a lot; Joe Burrow (£18.0m, 19.2) is the swap for Daniels, Judkins at 1.27 per £1m is the one to keep whatever happens. The Fumble: Brock Purdy (£16.2m, 17.5), Gibbs, Kaelon Black (£5.9m, 4.8), Michael Wilson, Isaac TeSlaa (£8.3m, 8.6), Brenen Thompson (£4.6m, 3.6), McBride, Omarion Hampton in the flex (£10.9m, 11.4) and the Chargers defence (£7.6m, 5.9), 120.2 for £106.8m: two punts at the bottom to afford Gibbs, McBride and Wilson, which is how a three-game slate works.

Sunday night: Bijan Robinson captain (£20.0m, 20.3), Lamar Jackson vice-captain (£17.2m, 19.6, questionable), Derrick Henry (£16.2m, 19.4), Drake London (£15.6m, 15.8), Michael Penix Jr. (£13.9m, 13.0) and Jahan Dotson (£6.2m, 6.0), 108.2 for £92.5m. Henry at 1.20 per £1m is the best value on the board and the captain if Jackson sits. Monday night: Josh Allen captain (£19.6m, 21.9), James Cook III vice-captain (£14.7m, 19.0), Kyren Williams (£17.2m, 17.9), Matthew Stafford (£16.8m, 16.4), Davante Adams (£15.0m, 14.1) and DJ Moore (£10.7m, 10.3, questionable), 114.4 for £96.9m. Cook at 1.29 per £1m is the best value in the primetime contests.

The season game: the first byes, and twenty names

The first byes land in gameweek 5: Kansas City and Carolina are off, which takes Kenneth Walker III (£19.2m, 440 projected, the second-best value on the whole list), Travis Kelce, Chuba Hubbard and Bryce Young out of your nine for the week. A player on a bye is the one zero the safety net cannot replace, so a Walker owner with one spare transfer uses it on a running back who plays this week and buys him back next; a Walker owner who would need two transfers to fix it should take the zero. Byes are the one week the transfer rules bite.

The injury sheet at the top of the price list is long again. Out: Caleb Williams (£20.6m, hamstring), Baker Mayfield (£19.0m, thumb), Josh Jacobs and Joe Mixon. Injured reserve: De'Von Achane (£18.3m), Jaxson Dart (£18.0m), A.J. Brown (£17.5m). Doubtful: Breece Hall (£18.0m, quadricep). Questionable: Ja'Marr Chase (£20.8m, concussion protocol), Lamar Jackson (£20.0m, ankle), Justin Jefferson (£19.1m, ankle, aiming to play), Tee Higgins (£18.5m, groin), Saquon Barkley (£18.3m, neck), Zay Flowers (£18.0m, foot), Jayden Daniels (£18.0m, elbow), Brock Bowers (£18.0m, knee), DeVonta Smith (£18.0m, hamstring), Stefon Diggs (£17.0m), DJ Moore (£16.8m), Rashee Rice (£16.5m), Ladd McConkey (£16.5m) and Tyler Shough (£16.1m, hand). Achane, Dart and Brown are zeros for weeks and should already be gone; Williams and Mayfield are zeros this week with backups who are themselves decent FanTeam plays. The questionables are a Friday decision, and the gameweek locks on Thursday night, so for anyone owned in a Sunday game the safety net is the plan: if he does not dress, the bench replaces him.

No price changes this week on the names we track, so the value list is projections moving, not prices. Running back: Bhayshul Tuten at £13.0m projects 331 points, 25.5 per £1m, up from 313 a week ago and still the best value on the whole list; Gibbs at £21.7m projects 473.5 (21.8), Derrick Henry at £19.6m 417.5 (21.3), James Cook III at £19.5m 409 (21.0), Bucky Irving at £15.0m 302 (20.1), Aaron Jones Sr. at £11.0m 216 (19.6), Chase Brown at £19.0m 368 (19.4). Receiver: Kalif Raymond at £9.7m projects 210, 21.6 per £1m, down from 247 with Caleb Williams out; Carnell Tate in Tennessee at £10.0m projects 216, also 21.6, and is the new name on the list; Denzel Boston (£9.2m, 178) and KC Concepcion (£9.5m, 178) in Cleveland both clear 18.5; Tee Higgins at £18.5m projects 352 (19.0) with the groin tag; CeeDee Lamb at £19.1m 359 (18.8); Smith-Njigba at £22.2m 406 (18.3); Roman Wilson at £8.6m 154.5 (18.0).

Quarterback: Tyler Shough at £16.1m projects 316, 19.7 per £1m, the best at the position for the third week running, hand permitting; Josh Allen at £21.7m 400 (18.4) and Brock Purdy at £18.4m 335.5 (18.2) are the two behind him, then Deshaun Watson at £15.0m (262.5, 17.5) and Joe Burrow at £19.0m (328, 17.3). Tight end: Isaiah Likely at £11.7m projects 255, 21.8 per £1m, the best tight end value by four points with a questionable knee; Trey McBride at £19.0m 326 (17.1), T.J. Hockenson at £12.5m 198 (15.9), Kenyon Sadiq at £8.7m 134 (15.4). Defence: Minnesota at £8.8m (150, 17.0), Cincinnati at £7.7m (119, 15.4), Pittsburgh at £8.6m (131, 15.2), Las Vegas at £7.3m (108, 14.7).
