The model has the Saints by 3.6 at a 43.5 total, within a point of the market on both, so the angle is in the props: Tyler Shough's legs, Deshaun Watson's yardage line and a Juwan Johnson slip.
A model and a market on the same number
Cleveland visit New Orleans on Sunday, kick-off 6pm UK time, 1pm Eastern, at the Caesars Superdome, a dome with a Sportturf surface. The Browns are 5-3, third in the AFC North, 4-2 in their last six, and lost 27-6 to Pittsburgh last week. The Saints are 2-5, fourth in the NFC South, 2-4 in their last six, and lost 16-10 to Pittsburgh. The market has New Orleans by three at a total of 42.5; the model has them by 3.6 at 43.5. The full picture is on the game page.
The series is New Orleans 3-0, two of those wins at home, with a 2-1 record against the number and an average total of 38.3, under twice. In 2024 the Saints won 35-14 with the Browns one-point road favourites. In 2022 it was 17-10 Saints in Cleveland, the Browns favoured by three, and in 2018 it was 21-18 Saints in New Orleans, the Saints favoured by ten. Those are three games with three different scripts and one winner.
Where the game is won
The matchup grid gives all four lines to Cleveland. Their passing against New Orleans is a 57% edge and their rushing a 69% edge, and the Saints' passing and rushing into the Browns defence are 58% and 64% Cleveland edges. The model still has the Saints winning by 3.6, so the grid and the score do not agree, and the season tape is mixed rather than one-sided. New Orleans allow 27.7 points a game, 29th, and 139.4 rushing yards, 29th. The Browns score 17.4, 29th, and convert 32.4% of their third downs, 30th, against 43.4% for the Saints, seventh. Cleveland's pass defence allows 214.6 yards a game, seventh, to New Orleans' 249.7, 24th. The Browns stats and Saints rushing pages show the detail.
Quarterback news is the story. Deshaun Watson is questionable with a concussion, and the model has him at 211.2 passing yards and 24.1 rushing yards; we have no projection for a Cleveland backup, so a Watson absence would change this page. Taysom Hill is questionable for the Saints, though the model's quarterback there is Tyler Shough at 224.6 passing yards. Denzel Boston is questionable with a calf, Cedric Tillman is questionable and Joe Royer is out. For New Orleans, Alvin Kamara is listed questionable as a resting player rather than an injury, CJ Donaldson is questionable with a shoulder, and Travis Etienne Jr. and Jordyn Tyson are on injured reserve. The injury table and the Browns depth chart update until kick-off.
The model's number
The model has Cleveland 20.0, New Orleans 23.6, a 43.5 total, and the Saints winning 60.6 times in 100. The market has them by three at 42.5, so the model is 0.6 of a point from the spread and a point from the total, which leaves nothing worth a bet. Cleveland plus 3.5 at 1.833 on Kalshi is a 52.1% call against 54.5% implied, no stars. The Saints on the moneyline at 1.68 on Kalshi is 60.0% against 60.1%, one star. The over at 42.5 at 2.06 on Kalshi is 49.8% against 48.5%, two stars. Nothing reaches the three stars a pick card needs, so this page shows none.
The one argument against the over is the series, which averages 38.3 and went under twice in three. The model's 43.5 is above that average and a point above the line, and the over is a lean at 1.2 points of edge. When a model sits this close to the market it is telling you the price is about right. The Browns ATS and Saints ATS pages carry the rest of the cover record.
Scorers, props and the slip
The scorer board is thin. Quinshon Judkins at 2.10 is a 41.2% call, 6.4 points short of the price. Chris Olave at 2.45 is 35.5%, 5.3 short, and Kendre Miller at 2.45 is 32.1%, 8.7 short. Harold Fannin Jr. at 3.40 is 32.0%, 2.6 over, Devaughn Vele at 3.40 is 30.0%, 0.6 over, and Alvin Kamara at 4.00 is 29.2%, 4.2 over, the biggest positive gap on the board and the one with the resting question attached.
The props are where the model disagrees with the lines. Shough is projected at 18.5 rushing yards against a line of 6.5 at 1.86 each way, a 66.7% over, a 16.7-point edge and the largest gap on the board. Gaps that size, above the eight points where we treat a number as a flag, can mean news the model has not seen. Watson's passing line is 230.5 against the model's 211.2, a 64.5% under at 1.86, with the concussion as the caveat. Juwan Johnson over 27.5 receiving yards at 1.86 is projected at 39.8, a 59.5% over. Boston over 3.5 receptions at 2.50 is projected at 3.8, a 50.1% over and a 12.3-point edge, but he is questionable with a calf. On the unders, Judkins is at 60 rushing yards against 63.5, and Olave at 70.2 against 73.5. These carry an edge but no star rating, so they are leans and not cards.
One slip is listed. Second Receiver Ceiling at 24.78 puts Shough over 274.5 passing yards, Johnson to score at 3.70 and Johnson over 27.5 receiving yards, the model at 8.4% against 4.0% implied, a quarter of a point. The Johnson legs agree with the single above. The Shough leg is about 50 yards over his 224.6 projection, so the slip is a script, and the single on his rushing is a line.
The verdict
The model has the Saints by 3.6 and the market by three, and when the two agree the honest answer is a pass on the side and the total. The grid says Cleveland in every line and the score says New Orleans, and we are not going to split that for you. The leans are in the props: Shough's rushing over, Watson's passing under and Johnson's receiving over. They carry no star rating, so they are leans to watch rather than cards, and Watson's concussion needs clearing first. The news to watch is Watson, Boston and Kamara.
