Barcelona host Real Madrid at the Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday at 8pm, with Barcelona top of the La Liga table on 27 points from nine wins and Madrid third on 21. The eleven meetings in our records, from October 2021 to May 2026, have produced 43 goals, 66 yellow cards, three red cards and not one draw in the ten league games.
The pattern underneath is the interesting part. This fixture scores about 45% more goals than an average La Liga match, finishes level far less often, and keeps being settled after the 90th minute.
Our records start in October 2021, so the longer history comes from a published source, named where we use it.
Ten league meetings have produced 38 goals, 3.8 a game, against 2.62 across every La Liga match since August 2021. None of them ended level, while 26% of all La Liga matches in that stretch (523 of 1,990) did. Barcelona and Madrid have won five each. Add the Copa del Rey final in April 2025, which was 2-2 after 90 minutes and went to Barcelona in extra time, and the count is six wins to five.
Yellow and red cards shown to players in each meeting
The longer record is closer to level. BeIN Sports' count of all official meetings up to October 2025 had 260 of them, with Real Madrid on 105 wins, Barcelona on 103 and 52 draws, so a fifth of the full history has ended level. It predates the last two meetings.
Four of the eleven were decided by a goal in the 90th minute or later, two for each side. Franck Kessié won the March 2023 game for Barcelona at 90+2. Jude Bellingham won it for Madrid at 90+2 in October 2023 and at 90+1 in April 2024. Jules Koundé scored the winner in the 116th minute of the Copa del Rey final.
Across the ten league meetings, six of the 38 goals (16%) came in stoppage time at the end of the match, double the 8% rate across all La Liga games since August 2021 (408 of 5,100). Three of the six decided the game. The others were in October 2021, when Lucas Vázquez made it 2-0 at 90+4 and Sergio Agüero pulled one back at 90+7, and Rodrygo's penalty at 90+1 in October 2022.
The scorers are mostly the players who'll start on Sunday. Eight players in our predicted XIs have scored 19 of the 43 goals in these meetings. Kylian Mbappé has five in three games, including a penalty and two more in the 4-3 in May 2025, and Jude Bellingham has four in three. On the Barcelona side Raphinha has three in two games.

Ferran Torres has four goals in four meetings but isn't named in either of our XIs.
The eleven meetings have had 66 yellow cards, six a game, against 4.72 a match across La Liga since August 2021. The ten league games average 5.9. Three players have been sent off. Antonio Rüdiger was shown a red card at the end of extra time in the Copa del Rey final, and in October 2025 Pedri and Real Madrid's Andriy Lunin were sent off in stoppage time, in a spell between 90+9 and 90+11 that also produced six yellow cards.
Juan Martínez Munuera has the game, the federation confirmed. Across 23 games over the last two seasons, Martínez Munuera averages 4.04 yellow cards a game, 57% of those matches have gone over 3.5 cards and 39% over 4.5, and both teams have been booked in 74% of them. In our records Martínez Munuera has taken one of the eleven meetings, the Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona in March 2022, which had 8 yellows. Javier Iglesias Villanueva is on VAR, according to the federation's appointments. The referees page has every official's numbers.
Barcelona have won all nine league games, scoring 39 and conceding nine. Their 4.33 goals a game and 8.44 shots on target a game are both the most in the league, and they've gone over 2.5 goals in 89% of their games, also the highest rate. They lost 4-2 at PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday, their first defeat after nine wins in all competitions.
Madrid are third, six points behind, with seven wins and two defeats, 23 scored and nine conceded, the same goals against as Barcelona. They have won their last four: 4-1 against RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday, 4-1 against Sevilla, 4-3 at Roma and 1-0 against Villarreal.
