Each player carries a z-score in every one of the 9 categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, threes, field goal impact, free throw impact and turnovers. The analyzer sums each side's z-scores category by category and reports who gains each race, then adds them up for the total.
Why can a trade add value and still lose?
Because a category league is won by taking more of the nine races than your opponent each week, not by accumulating one total. Two good players for one great one adds value on paper. If the great one was your only source of blocks and steals, you now lose two categories every week.
