NBA Fantasy Basketball Rankings: Category and Points

These NBA fantasy basketball rankings value 0 players on their 2026-27 game logs, in both formats the game is played in. In nine-category leagues a player is worth the sum of his z-scores across the nine categories; in points leagues one scoring formula decides. The board fills once a season of game logs is in. Only players with 20 or more appearances qualify.

Rankings need a season of game logs to value players against.

Two formats, two different boards. A points league is one scoring formula and one number, so the best player is the one who accumulates most. A category league is nine independent races, and a player is worth how far above average he sits in each. That is what a z-score measures and what these rankings total. The two orders differ: a high-usage guard who turns the ball over can top a points board and sit well down a category one. Percentage categories are scored on volume-weighted impact rather than the raw rate. A 90% free-throw shooter taking one attempt a night moves nothing; the same rate on nine attempts decides the category. Punt a category and its z-score stops counting, which reshuffles the board at once.

Frequently asked

Because they reward different things. Points leagues pay for volume, so heavy usage wins even with poor efficiency. Category leagues pay for being above average in nine separate races, so a specialist who dominates blocks or threes can outrank a bigger scorer.

Quick answers3 questions

Who is the number one NBA fantasy player in 2026-27?

The ranking appears once a season of game logs is loaded. Players are then ordered by the sum of their nine category z-scores, or by points-league scoring, with tiers drawn where value drops away fastest.

How are category-league fantasy values calculated?

Each of the 0 qualified players is measured in nine categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, threes, field goal impact, free throw impact and turnovers. Every category is converted to a z-score, the number of standard deviations above or below the pool average, and the nine are summed. Turnovers invert, so fewer is better.

Which position is scarcest in NBA fantasy this season?

Scarcity is measured as the gap between the best player at a position and the thirtieth, the replacement level a drafter can still find later. The table fills once the season has enough appearances to rank the pool.
