How we pick our bet builder tips

Every leg starts in the Statz projections model, which prices every player in a covered fixture for shots, shots on target, fouls, tackles and goal involvement from their season-long and recent output, the opponent, and the game state the match is likely to produce. We sort by projection first and then check the price - a strong projection at a bad price is not a tip, and a weak projection at a big price is a lottery ticket, not a bet builder leg.

We prefer 1+ lines over higher lines almost everywhere. The difference between a player projected at 1.4 shots on target and a 2+ line is the difference between backing what the data says and backing what you hope it says. Higher lines appear in our slips only when the projection genuinely clears them.

The last test is game fit. Three good legs do not automatically make a good builder: a tackles line on a team expected to dominate possession fights its own match script. Every slip is checked as a story about one game before it is published.

Team news comes first

The single biggest source of losing player props is a player who does not start. Raw props feeds happily quote players who end up on the bench, so every selection is cross-checked against predicted and confirmed lineups before publication, and we say so when a pick carries rotation risk.

Lineups are confirmed about an hour before kick-off. When a slip is published before team news - which a morning column has to be - the reasoning names the players whose starts we are least sure of, so you can check the teamsheet before betting rather than after.

Substitutions are part of the maths

Under bet365's Sub On Play On and the equivalent rules at Sky Bet, Paddy Power and Betfair, a player prop does not die when the player is substituted - the replacement's numbers continue the line. We measured what that is worth across a full season of the big five leagues: when a starter comes off one short of a volume line, the pair's combined total still gets there roughly a third of the time on tackles, fouls and shots.

That changes which players make good legs. A starter who tends to be replaced around the hour is a better prop bet than his minutes suggest, provided the likely replacement plays the same position. Our weekly Super Sub Report tracks exactly this, match by match.

Which markets make good bet builder legs

The volume markets - shots, fouls, tackles - are the reliable core of a builder, because they are high-frequency events a player in the right role produces most weeks. Shots on target is a rarer event with more variance per match, and card markets are more volatile still: referee and game-state dependent in a way season averages do not capture.

Our slips lean on volume markets, use shots on target where the projection is genuinely strong, and treat cards as seasoning rather than structure.

When the slips refresh

The builders on this page rebuild through the day as prices move, from the fixtures our player-props model covers - the Premier League, Championship, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and the European cups. The biggest matches of the week appear as soon as real player-prop prices exist, typically from Thursday for a weekend round and the same morning for midweek fixtures.

Prices are quoted at the time the slip was built and move, sometimes sharply, near kick-off - the price you see at the bookmaker is the one that counts.

Do your own digging before you back a leg

Every leg in our slips can be checked against the same numbers we used to pick it. The player stat pages cover shots, fouls, tackles and passes with per-match logs and opponent context, and the Bet Builder tool prices every player in a covered fixture against the model, so you can rebuild a slip with your own legs - or disagree with ours - from the same data.

The best habit in player-prop betting is boring: check the player starts, check the opponent concedes the thing you are backing, and check the price against a projection rather than against your memory of the player. All three checks live on this site.

Bet builders and accumulators are different bets

An accumulator combines outcomes from different matches; a bet builder stacks selections inside one. That makes builders more correlated - the same game state drives every leg, for better and worse. A match that turns into a siege can land three volume lines together; a red card can sink all of them at once.

We cover both: the Daily Acca combines match results across the day's card, while the builders on this page live and die inside a single game.

FAQs

What are today's bet builder tips?

Ready-made bet builders for today's biggest matches, built by the Statz engine in a spread of styles - a safer short-price slip, our flagship picks, and a huge-odds long shot. Each shows every leg, its price, and the player's recent form, and every slip is one click from a bookmaker or from the builder where you can customise it.

How are the bet builder tips chosen?

Projection first, price second: every leg starts in the Statz model's player projections for shots, shots on target, fouls and tackles, is checked against predicted lineups, and is then checked against the price. Slips favour 1+ volume lines, and every builder is tested as a story about one game before publication.

Are these tips I should follow blindly?

No - they are expertly analysed starting points, built to be customised. Bet builders are high-variance and most multis lose, so treat every slip as a base: check the team news an hour before kick-off, swap any leg you disagree with in the builder, and only ever stake what you are comfortable losing.

What happens to a bet builder leg if the player is substituted?

At bookmakers running Super Sub rules - bet365's Sub On Play On, Sky Bet and Paddy Power's Super Sub, Betfair's Safe Sub - the replacement's statistics continue the line. Our season-long data shows the pair's combined total still clears a volume line the starter was one short of roughly a third of the time.

Which competitions do the tips cover?

The competitions our player-props model prices: the Premier League, Championship, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and the Champions and Europa Leagues. On days with none of those - domestic cup nights, international breaks - the page says so rather than forcing a slip.
