Glamorgan vs Somerset – T20 Blast 2026 Match Report | Statz

Carlson Smashes Century as Glamorgan Chase 172 in Just 13.5 Overs

Glamorgan won by 7 wickets (with 37 balls remaining). That scoreline barely does justice to what happened at Sophia Gardens. In match 23 of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026, Glamorgan chased down 172 in just 13.5 overs – an emphatic demolition of Somerset built around one of the innings of the tournament so far.

First Innings – Banton Blitz, Then Collapse

Somerset’s innings was a tale of two halves. Tom Banton came out swinging, smashing 59 off just 25 balls with seven fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 236. At 74/1 after 6.6 overs, Somerset looked set for something well north of 200.

Then Banton fell – and everything changed. From that point, Somerset managed just 97 runs from overs 7 to 20, losing eight wickets in the process. Nathan McAndrew was devastating, returning figures of 4/15 from his four overs at an economy of 3.75. Mason Crane chipped in with 3/42 as Somerset’s middle order crumbled.

James Rew contributed 22 off 20 and Daniel Sams hit 22 off 18, but neither could sustain the momentum Banton had generated. Somerset limped to 171/9 – a total that felt 30 runs short of where they’d been heading at the halfway mark.

Second Innings – The Carlson Masterclass

Kiran Carlson produced one of the great T20 Blast innings. His 109 off 45 balls – 13 fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 242 – tore the chase apart from ball one.

Carlson put on an opening stand with Will Smale, who played a fine supporting hand of 40 off 27 with six fours. By the time Carlson finally fell at 146/1 in the 12th over, the game was long over as a contest.

Somerset’s bowlers had nowhere to hide. Every single one conceded at over 10 an over. Daniel Sams went for 15.5, Jake Ball conceded 14 from his solitary over, and even Lewis Gregory – who claimed the only wicket to fall during the powerplay – leaked 10.5. Sean Dickson finished it off with a blistering 16 not out from five balls at a strike rate of 320.

Statz MVP – Nathan McAndrew (188.06)

No official Man of the Match was assigned for this game, but the Statz MVP rating tells a clear story. McAndrew’s 188.06 MI rating tops Carlson’s 137.95, and for good reason. His 4/15 at an economy of 3.75 was the intervention that turned Banton’s 59 off 25 from a launchpad into a footnote. Without McAndrew’s spell, Somerset are posting 200+ and we’re having a very different conversation.

Top 5 Statz MI Ratings

  2. Kiran Carlson – 137.95 (109 off 45, 13 fours, 6 sixes) | Dream11: 223 pts
  3. Tom Banton – 103.83 (59 off 25, 7 fours, 4 sixes) | Dream11: 129 pts
  4. Mason Crane – 59.10 (3/42) | Dream11: 104 pts
  5. Sean Dickson – 52.15 (16* off 5, 3 fours) | Dream11: 44 pts

Turning Point

Banton’s dismissal at 74/1 in the seventh over. Somerset were cruising at over 11 an over with Banton destroying the Glamorgan attack. Once he fell, Somerset’s remaining batters scored 97 runs from 80 balls – a completely different tempo. McAndrew and Crane strangled the life out of the innings, and what should have been a 200+ total became a very chaseable 171.

Match Context

This was Glamorgan’s first win of the T20 Blast 2026, moving them to 1-2 (4 points, 11th in the standings). Somerset drop to 2-1 (8 points, 8th). For Glamorgan, it’s about momentum – and they could hardly have built it more emphatically. For Somerset, the collapse from 74/1 to 171/9 will sting. Their bowling unit looked toothless in the chase and they’ll need answers before their next outing.
