How Statz Rating works:
- Each player receives a contextual match impact score based on their all-round contribution — batting, bowling, and situational factors.
- Ratings are scaled against the season benchmark so they are directly comparable across fixtures and to the season leaderboard.
- A typical top performer scores around 100. Exceptional performances can exceed 100.

Surrey won by 6 wickets (with 9 balls remaining) as Sam Curran produced a match-winning 71 not out off 47 balls to chase down 144 at Lord’s in the T20 Blast 2026. This was match 11 of 112 in the group stage, and the opening fixture of the tournament for both sides. First Innings – Middlesex 143/8 (20 overs)
Middlesex won the toss and chose to bat at Lord’s, but things went wrong almost immediately. Max Holden top-scored in the top order with 23 off 19 balls but fell bowled with the score at 37 in the fifth over. By then Adam Rossington had also departed for 6 off 13, caught off Reece Topley, and Leus du Plooy contributed a two-ball duck – Middlesex were 37-3 after 5.1 overs and in serious trouble.
Josh de Caires added 16 off 15 but was trapped LBW by Yousef Majid, and when Caleb Falconer fell caught for 4 at 50-5, the hosts were staring at a sub-120 total. Ryan Higgins made a steady 13 off 16 before being dismissed hit wicket, and for a long time there was no momentum at all.
The rescue came from Luke Hollman and Eathan Bosch, who transformed the innings with an aggressive late partnership. Hollman finished unbeaten on 35 off 28 balls with four boundaries, playing with intelligence and tempo when Middlesex needed it most. Bosch was the more explosive of the pair, smashing 31 off just 18 deliveries including two fours and two sixes before being run out off the penultimate ball. Between them they added 53 runs from the final five overs, dragging Middlesex to a competitive 143-8.
For Surrey, Yousef Majid was the standout with the ball – his 2-25 from four overs at an economy of 6.25 squeezed the middle overs perfectly. Jordan Clark was similarly tight with 1-16 from three, while Topley picked up 2-39 at the top. Sean Abbott went wicketless but bowled a disciplined four overs for 24.
Second Innings – Surrey 144/4 (18.3 overs)
Surrey’s chase began poorly. Adam Thomas was caught for 12 off 17 at 16-1, and Jason Roy looked completely out of sorts – he scratched his way to 2 off 13 balls before being bowled by Noah Cornwell. At 18-2 from 5.1 overs, the required rate was climbing.
Ollie Pope offered a brief spark with 9 off 9 before being caught at 42-3, and when Daniel Lawrence fell for 7 off 5 at 56-4 in the 11th over, Surrey still needed 88 from 57 balls with over half the batting order gone.
Enter Sam Curran. He had walked in at number four with the score at 42-3 and immediately took charge. Curran played with extraordinary authority – six fours and four sixes in an unbeaten 71 off 47 balls, a strike rate of 151. He found the perfect partner in Laurie Evans, who arrived at 56-4 and matched Curran’s aggression with 34 not out off 21 balls, cracking three fours and two sixes. Their unbroken fifth-wicket partnership of 88 came in just 8.1 overs and finished the job with nine balls to spare.
Tom Helm was the pick of the Middlesex bowlers with 2-24 from 3.3 overs, while Hollman added a wicket with his 1-26 from four overs. Bosch, so effective with the bat, was expensive with the ball – 0-52 from his four overs at an economy of 13.

Turning Point
Ollie Pope caught for 9 at 42-3 in over 8.4. At that point, Surrey’s top three had all failed – Roy (2 off 13), Thomas (12 off 17), Pope (9 off 9) – and the chase of 144 looked far from straightforward. Sam Curran had already been at the crease, but it was from this moment that he truly took control. With Lawrence falling soon after at 56-4, Curran needed a partner. Laurie Evans delivered, and together they turned a shaky chase into a stroll.
