Surrey vs Middlesex – T20 Blast 2026 Match Report | Statz
Surrey won by 8 wickets (with 35 balls remaining) in the 36th match of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026 at Kennington Oval. Surrey won the toss and chose to bowl – a decision that paid off handsomely as they restricted Middlesex to 129/7 before chasing it down with nearly six overs to spare. The win lifts Surrey to 7th on 8 points (W2 L2), while Middlesex slip to 15th with just 4 points from four matches (W1 L3, NRR -0.871).
First Innings – Middlesex Struggle to Build Momentum
Middlesex never really got going at the Oval. Max Holden was bowled for 12 off 10 balls with the score on 24 in the 4th over, and while Adam Rossington hit two sixes in a brisk 20 off 17, his catch dismissal at 39/2 in the 6th over left the visitors wobbling.
Josh de Caires managed just 9 before being bowled, and Ben Geddes was run out for 1 off 5 balls – Middlesex 50/4 inside the 7th over. The middle order was in tatters.
Ryan Higgins (27 off 29) and Luke Hollman (31* off 29) steadied things with a partnership worth 47 that took the score from 54/5 to 101/6, but the strike rate never threatened to take the game away from Surrey. Eathan Bosch fell for 4, and Middlesex limped to 129/7 – well below par on a good Oval surface.
Sean Abbott was the pick of the Surrey attack with 2/16 from his four overs at an economy of 4.00 – outstanding control. Jordan Clark chipped in with 2/31, while Reece Topley (1/21, Econ 5.25) and Tom Curran (1/34) each picked up a wicket. Will Jacks went wicketless but his four overs for 24 (Econ 6.00) kept things tight.
Second Innings – Roy and Pope Make Light Work of the Chase
Chasing 130, Surrey lost Will Jacks bowled for 24 off 17 (two fours, two sixes) at 38/1 in the 5th over, but that was as good as it got for Middlesex.
Jason Roy played a typically punchy innings of 46 off 31, lacing seven boundaries as he and Ollie Pope put on 74 for the second wicket. Roy fell caught at 112/2 in the 12th over, but by then the game was done.
Pope was magnificent – 51 not out off just 33 balls, striking at 155 with five fours and two sixes. He finished it off in style alongside Sam Curran (7* off 4), Surrey reaching 134/2 in just 14.1 overs.
Tom Helm was the only Middlesex bowler to emerge with any credit – 1/25 from four overs (Econ 6.25). Noah Cornwell took 1/29 from three, but Eathan Bosch (0/34, Econ 11.33) and Sebastian Morgan (0/30, Econ 13.85) were expensive.

Turning Point
The Ben Geddes run out in the 7th over was the moment that killed the Middlesex innings. At 50/4 after just 6.2 overs, with Geddes departing for 1 off 5 balls, any platform the top order had built was gone. Middlesex needed their middle order to rebuild, but at four down inside the powerplay extension, the required scoring rate was already under pressure and they never recovered.
