How Statz Rating works:
- Each player receives a contextual match impact score based on their all-round contribution — batting, bowling, and situational factors.
- Ratings are scaled against the season benchmark so they are directly comparable across fixtures and to the season leaderboard.
- A typical top performer scores around 100. Exceptional performances can exceed 100.
Middlesex vs Kent – T20 Blast 2026 Match Report | Statz
Billings Blitzes 84* as Kent Open T20 Blast Campaign With Commanding Win at Lord’s
Kent won by 27 runs as Sam Billings produced a sensational unbeaten 84 off 37 balls to power Kent to 208/6 at Lord’s on T20 Blast opening night. Middlesex were ultimately restricted to 181/8 despite a brilliant 79 from Adam Rossington, falling well short in the first of 112 matches in the T20 Blast 2026 season. With all 18 counties starting fresh, this was the perfect curtain-raiser – a big-hitting masterclass under the Lord’s lights.
First Innings – Kent 208/6 (20 overs)
Daniel Bell-Drummond set the tone with an explosive 26 off just 12 balls, cracking four fours and a six before falling caught at 40/3.4 overs. Tawanda Muyeye picked up where he left off, stroking 38 off 25 with three fours and two sixes as the pair built early momentum. When Muyeye fell at 91/8.2 overs, Kent had a solid platform but needed acceleration.
Zak Crawley steadied the ship with 36 off 26 – four boundaries and a six keeping the scoreboard ticking without taking undue risks. But the middle order wobbled badly. Joe Denly fell for a duck two balls after Crawley’s departure at 133/13.1, and Chris Benjamin followed for 0 off 4 at 150/14.6. Kent were in danger of wasting their platform.
Enter Billings. The Kent captain was utterly destructive, smashing 84 not out off 37 deliveries at a strike rate of 227. Nine fours, five sixes – the Middlesex attack had no answer. Even as Joey Evison laboured to 5 off 12 before retiring out at 194/18.6, Billings kept firing. Thomas Stewart Rogers chipped in with a handy 6 not out off 3 as Kent posted a formidable 208/6.
For Middlesex, Noah Cornwell was the standout with figures of 2/25 from four overs including a maiden – an economy of 6.25 in a match full of big hitting. Luke Hollman returned 1/30 from his four, while Zafar Gohar went for 49 off his four overs despite taking a wicket.
Second Innings – Middlesex 181/8 (20 overs)
Max Holden got Middlesex off to a flyer with 20 off 16, and when he fell at 61/5.3 overs, the hosts were well placed. Adam Rossington was magnificent – 79 off 43 balls with nine fours and four sixes, striking at 184. He and Leus du Plooy pushed the chase along nicely, du Plooy contributing a quickfire 19 off 10 before falling at 89/7.6 overs.
For a while, Rossington made the impossible look possible. But the middle order crumbled around him. Caleb Falconer managed just 12 off 15 at a strike rate of 80 – a painful go-slow when boundaries were needed. Ryan Higgins fell for a duck two balls after Falconer at 125/12.6, and the required rate started spiralling.
Rossington’s dismissal at 141/15.3 overs was the decisive moment. Once he went, caught trying to keep the chase alive, three more wickets tumbled in quick succession – Hollman for 0, Bosch for 12, and Gohar for 11 – and the game was done. Sebastian Morgan hit a breezy 19 not out off 10 to add some late respectability.
Thomas Stewart Rogers was superb with the ball, claiming 4/39 from his four overs. Jake Lintott was equally impressive with 2/25 at an economy of 6.25, while Matt Milnes chipped in with 2/38.

Turning Point
Rossington’s dismissal at 141/15.3 overs was the moment Kent sealed victory. He had been the sole driver of the Middlesex chase, striking at 184 with nine fours and four sixes. With him at the crease, 68 off 28 balls was improbable but not impossible. Without him, the middle and lower order simply could not cope. Three wickets fell in the next four overs as the required rate spiralled beyond reach, and Kent’s bowling attack – led by Rogers and Lintott – closed the game out with authority.
