How Statz Rating works:
- Each player receives a contextual match impact score based on their all-round contribution — batting, bowling, and situational factors.
- Ratings are scaled against the season benchmark so they are directly comparable across fixtures and to the season leaderboard.
- A typical top performer scores around 100. Exceptional performances can exceed 100.
RCB vs Gujarat Titans – IPL 2026 Match Report | Statz
Kohli Steers RCB Past Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 to Reach IPL Final
Royal Challengers Bengaluru won by 5 wickets (with 12 balls remaining) in Match 74 of the Indian Premier League 2026 season – the Qualifier 1 clash between the top two sides, with a place in the final on the line. Virat Kohli produced a vintage knock of 75 not out off 42 balls to steer RCB home at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat Titans Struggle to Build Momentum
Gujarat Titans won the toss but were inserted after RCB elected to bowl first. The decision paid off immediately. Rasikh Salam Dar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar made early inroads, reducing GT to 26/2 inside four overs. Captain Shubman Gill fell for 10 off 8 balls, caught in the third over, and Sai Sudharsan followed soon after for 12 off 12.
Nishant Sindhu (20 off 18) and Jos Buttler (19 off 23) tried to rebuild but neither could accelerate. Buttler’s innings crawled to a strike rate of just 83 before he was stumped in the 13th over with GT still struggling at 73/4.
Washington Sundar was the lone bright spot, batting through to finish 50 not out off 37 balls – a composed knock laced with five fours at a strike rate of 135. Arshad Khan provided a brief burst of violence with 15 off 6, including two sixes, but the lower order could not push GT beyond 155/8 from their 20 overs.
RCB’s bowling was disciplined across the board. Krunal Pandya was the most economical with 1/23 from his four overs at an economy of 5.75. Rasikh Salam Dar was the pick of the attack with 3/27 at 6.75, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar chipped in with 2/29 and Josh Hazlewood took 2/37.
Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer Dismantle the Chase
RCB’s reply started at a blistering pace. Venkatesh Iyer smashed 32 off just 16 balls – four fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 200 – putting GT on the back foot immediately. By the time he was caught in the fifth over, RCB were already 62/1 and well ahead of the rate.
Kohli arrived early and took control from ball one. While wickets fell around him – Devdutt Padikkal (1), Rajat Patidar (15), and Krunal Pandya (1) departing in quick succession to leave RCB 91/4 – Kohli never wavered.
Tim David provided crucial middle-order impetus with 24 off 17 at a strike rate of 141, putting on a partnership that swung the match decisively RCB’s way. After David fell at 132/5 in the 14th over, Jitesh Sharma (11 not out off 14) kept his head to see Kohli home.
Kohli finished unbeaten on 75 off 42 balls – nine fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 179. It was a masterclass in chase management: aggressive enough to keep the rate comfortable, smart enough to bat through. Rashid Khan was GT’s best bowler with 2/25 from four overs at an economy of 6.25, but it was not enough.
Statz MVP – Virat Kohli
The Statz Match Impact rating calculates player impact based on match context, and Kohli’s performance registered a remarkable 98.37 – the highest in the match by a distance. His raw impact score of 165.41 reflected total dominance of the chase in a high-pressure qualifier. The official Player of the Match award also went to Kohli – Statz agrees.
Across the IPL 2026 season, Kohli has accumulated a total scaled impact of 807.18 from 16 matches, averaging 50.45 per game – underlining his consistency as one of the tournament’s standout performers.
Top 5 Statz Ratings
- Virat Kohli – 98.37 – Unbeaten 75 off 42 to chase down the target with two overs to spare. Complete control.
- Rashid Khan – 88.38 – GT’s most impactful player with 2/25 from four overs and a quickfire 7 off 3 with the bat.
- Arshad Khan – 75.57 – Explosive 15 off 6 with two sixes late in the GT innings plus 1/32 with the ball.
- Rasikh Salam Dar – 75.33 – Best bowling figures in the match with 3/27 at an economy of 6.75. Set the tone early.
- Venkatesh Iyer – 62.57 – Blistering 32 off 16 at the top of the chase gave RCB the platform Kohli built on.
Turning Point
The match turned during RCB’s powerplay. Venkatesh Iyer’s dismissal at 62/1 in the fifth over could have slowed RCB’s momentum, but the damage was already done – 62 off 4.3 overs meant the required rate never climbed above a run a ball. GT needed early wickets to build pressure, and while they did pick up three wickets in the middle overs to make it 91/4, Kohli’s presence at the crease meant the chase was always under control.
Match Context
This was the Qualifier 1 of IPL 2026, pitting the top two teams in the standings against each other. Both RCB (1st, 18 pts, NRR +0.744) and Gujarat Titans (2nd, 18 pts, NRR +0.695) finished level on points with 9 wins from 14 matches, separated only by net run rate.
RCB’s victory means they go straight through to the IPL 2026 Final. Gujarat Titans will have another chance, dropping into the Eliminator/Qualifier 2 pathway where they will need to win to keep their campaign alive.
