Gujarat Titans beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 4 wickets (with 25 balls remaining) in the 42nd match of 74 in the Indian Premier League 2026, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 30 April. RCB arrived as the competition form side and second in the table – but a brutal GT chase, led by Shubman Gill‘s explosive 43 off 18 balls, ended their winning momentum at a critical point in the season. GT move to 5th on 10 points; RCB stay 2nd on 12 but with a second defeat inside a week to their rivals from Ahmedabad.

First Innings – RCB Post 155 in Tricky Conditions

Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to bowl – and for a while it looked like a misjudgement. Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell opened for RCB. Bethell went early – caught at 5(5) with the score on 34 in over 2.4. Kohli, though, was in devastating touch. He smashed 28 off 13 balls at a strike rate of 215 – 5 fours, 1 six – before being caught with the score at 35 in over 3.2, just two balls after Bethell’s departure. Two wickets in quick succession and RCB had lost their top two for 35 inside four overs.

Devdutt Padikkal steadied the innings. His 40 off 24 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes, SR 167) was the anchor knock – he kept RCB competitive while wickets fell around him. Rajat Patidar added 19 off 15 at the other end before being caught at 79 in over 7.4. Jitesh Sharma came and went quickly – out for 1 off 3 at 80/5 in over 8.1. Tim David contributed 9 off 6 before a catch at 91/6 in over 9.4. Krunal Pandya made 4 off 4 before going caught at 96/7 in over 10.3.

With RCB sitting at 96/7 inside 11 overs, the innings was teetering. Romario Shepherd joined Padikkal and the pair put on 30 crucial runs. Padikkal was then clean bowled by Arshad Khan at 126/8 in over 13.6 – a wicket that effectively ended RCB’s hopes of a big total. Shepherd followed at 126/9 in over 14.1, caught for 17 off 15. That was two wickets at 126 in consecutive overs from Arshad Khan as the GT seamer ripped through the lower order.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar hit an unbeaten 15 off 15 at the death, and Venkatesh Iyer chipped in with 12 off 15 before being caught at 155/10 in over 19.1. Josh Hazlewood was run out for 0 off the last ball. RCB all out for 155 in 19.2 overs.

For GT, Arshad Khan was the pick with 3/22 off 3.2 overs (economy 6.60). Rashid Khan was exceptional – 2/19 off 4 overs, economy 4.75. Jason Holder took 2/29 at economy 7.25. Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada each took 1 wicket at economies of 9.50 and 11.00 respectively.

Second Innings – GT Chase It Down in the 16th Over

GT needed 156 from 20 overs and Shubman Gill came out swinging. In one of the most destructive cameos of IPL 2026, Gill hammered 43 off 18 balls – 4 fours, 3 sixes, strike rate 239. He was eventually caught at 57/2 in over 4.6, but the damage was done. GT were 57 for 2 inside five overs with the rate well in hand.

Sai Sudharsan went early – caught for 6 off 5 at 42/1 in over 2.6. Jos Buttler then played a calculated 39 off 19 balls (2 fours, 4 sixes, SR 205), before being clean bowled at 92/3 in over 7.3 with the chase well on track. Shahrukh Khan fell for 8 off 8 caught at 109/4 in over 10.1. Washington Sundar made 12 off 12 before LBW at 111/5 in over 10.3.

GT at 111/5 still needing 45 from nearly 10 overs – Rahul Tewatia anchored the chase beautifully, finishing 27 not out off 17 (4 fours, SR 159). Jason Holder contributed 12 off 10 before being caught at 141/6 in over 13.5. Tewatia and Rashid Khan (7* off 6) closed it out – GT 158/6 in 15.5 overs with 25 balls to spare.

With the ball for RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivered one of the great individual bowling performances of this IPL – 3/28 off 4 overs at economy 7.00. Romario Shepherd also impressed with 2/30 at economy 7.50. Suyash Sharma took 1/44 at economy 11.48. Josh Hazlewood was expensive – 0/56 off 4 overs at economy 14.00 – putting significant pressure on the other bowlers to hold GT back.
