How Statz Rating works:
- Each player receives a contextual match impact score based on their all-round contribution — batting, bowling, and situational factors.
- Ratings are scaled against the season benchmark so they are directly comparable across fixtures and to the season leaderboard.
- A typical top performer scores around 100. Exceptional performances can exceed 100.
Sussex vs Leicestershire – T20 Blast 2026 Report | Statz
Turner’s All-Round Masterclass Powers Leicestershire to Comfortable Chase of 180
Ashton Turner delivered one of the performances of the T20 Blast season, taking 2/24 with the ball before smashing an unbeaten 57 off 28 balls as Leicestershire chased down 180 with 14 balls to spare at the County Ground, Hove.
Leicestershire won by 4 wickets (with 14 balls remaining) in match 42 of 112 in the 2026 T20 Blast.
Sussex Post 179 But Collapse After Ward Blitz
Harrison Ward gave Sussex the perfect start, smashing 69 off just 33 balls with seven fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 209. He and Daniel Hughes (25 off 24) put on 95 for the first wicket inside 8.3 overs – a platform that should have launched Sussex well past 180.
Instead, it triggered a collapse. Ward fell caught behind off Liam Trevaskis, and the wheels came off. Jack Leaning made just 2, Oliver Carter managed 6, and Hughes followed shortly after – Sussex stumbled from 95/0 to 110/4 inside three overs.
Turner was outstanding with the ball, returning figures of 4-0-24-2 at an economy of 6.00 – the most economical of Leicestershire’s six bowlers. Trevaskis matched him with 2/27 from his four overs. Ian Holland chipped in with 2/35 and Ben Green took 2/30.
Tom Alsop provided a late injection with 34 off 21 balls (three fours, one six, SR 162), dragging Sussex from 138/6 to 172/7 in the death overs. Tom Price added 15 off 11 but Sussex were bowled out for 179 off the final ball of the 20th over.
Turner Takes Charge as Leicestershire Cruise Home
Leicestershire’s chase stuttered early. Ben Mike fell for 4 with the score on 22, and Rishi Patel – who had looked dangerous with 25 off 15 (five fours, SR 167) – was caught at 33/2 in the fourth over.
Jonathan Tattersall (13 off 13) and Nick Kelly (30 off 23, four fours) rebuilt to 65/3 before Tattersall was trapped lbw by Danny Briggs. Kelly and Turner then put on 35 for the fourth wicket before Kelly departed at 100/4.
From there, Turner took over completely. His unbeaten 57 came off just 28 deliveries – six fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 204. He found willing support from Green (13 off 10) and Trevaskis (14 not out off 7, including a six) as Leicestershire knocked off the remaining 21 runs from the final partnership without losing another wicket.
Statz MVP – Ashton Turner
Turner earns the Statz MVP award with a rating of 175.3 – a dominant all-round display. His 2/24 with the ball kept Sussex to a chaseable total, and his unbeaten 57 off 28 made the chase look routine. The Statz Rating calculates impact based on match context, and Turner’s contribution on both sides of the ball was the clear difference between the two sides. View the full scorecard.

Turning Point
Sussex looked set for a huge total at 95/0 after 8.3 overs with Ward blazing at over 200 strike rate. His dismissal – caught off Trevaskis – changed everything. Three wickets fell for just 15 runs in the next 11 balls as Sussex crumbled to 110/4. That middle-overs squeeze turned a potential 200+ total into a chaseable 179, and Turner made them pay.
Match Context
Neither side is having a vintage Blast campaign. Sussex sit 15th in the standings with just one win from five matches (P5 W1 L4, 4 points, NRR -0.646), while Leicestershire are 14th (P5 W2 L3, 8 points, NRR -1.397). This result keeps Leicestershire’s slim qualification hopes alive, but Sussex are already staring at an early exit with four defeats from five.
