Super Sub Betting Sites: Which Bookmakers Let a Sub Save Your Bet

A small group of UK betting sites now run substitution rules on player markets - bet365's Sub On Play On, the Super Sub rules at Sky Bet and Paddy Power, and Betfair's Safe Sub. The idea is the same everywhere: if the player you backed is substituted off, the bet does not end with him. His replacement's statistics continue your line, at the odds you took. Player props - shots, shots on target, fouls, tackles, cards and goalscorer markets - are the building blocks of the modern bet builder, and in an era of five substitutions per team, matches in our data average nine changes and more than a third of starters who reach the hour are taken off. The table below covers every UK bookmaker we track - the ones with a sub rule and, just as usefully, the ones without.

Sub rules at every UK bookmaker

What happens to a player bet when he is subbed off?

If your player takes no part in the match at all, bookmakers typically void the leg and return your stake. Once he plays any minutes, the bet stands - however few those minutes turn out to be. At a bookmaker without a sub rule, a 2+ tackles line on a midfielder who is hooked on the hour with one tackle simply dies with him: whatever his replacement does for the last half hour counts for nothing. At the super sub books, the same substitution transfers the bet to the replacement instead - the starter's tally is kept, the substitute's is added on top, and the combined figure is what settles the line.

The betting sites with sub rules

Four big UK brands run the flagship versions of the rule, under three different names. bet365's Sub On Play On covers one of the widest ranges of player markets - goalscorer, assists, shots, fouls and cards among them - across the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League and further competitions, with eligible markets carrying the icon on the slip. Sky Bet's Super Sub runs across all four English divisions and applies automatically to singles, multiples and BuildABets, with substitutions determined by Opta data. Paddy Power's Super Sub covers goalscorer, shots, shots on target, fouls and card markets across the Premier League and major English and European competitions, in-play as well as pre-match and even on free-bet stakes. Betfair's Safe Sub covers the Premier League, domestic cups and European competitions, and continues even when the substitute is himself substituted. William Hill runs a similar rule as Impact Sub on selected Premier League and Champions League matches. None of the other UK books we track - Ladbrokes, Coral, Betfred, Boyle Sports, Midnite, Virgin Bet, LiveScore Bet, NetBet, 10bet, BetWright, 7Bet - publishes an equivalent at the time of writing: at those books a substituted player's line stands on his own minutes only. These are promotions rather than standing settlement rules and their terms change season to season - the icon on the slip is the truth, and a market without it settles the old-fashioned way.

Why sub rules change bet builder strategy

Substitutes are typically an upgrade on the starter, minute for minute. Comparing the same players in games they started against games they entered from the bench, across Europe's big leagues, substitutes produce roughly 1.4 to 1.7 times their own per-90 rates as starters: shots on target show the biggest lift at around +71%, then shots (+63%) and fouls (+55%), with tackles close to +38%. Some of the uplift is game state rather than fresh legs, and we cannot say how much the bookmakers already build into their prices - but the direction is clear. Across a full season of the big five leagues, when a starter came off one short of a volume line, the pair's combined total still got there roughly a third of the time on tackles, fouls and shots. Volume lines on rotation-risk players stop being dead money, provided the likely replacement plays the same position: a like-for-like change keeps or improves your position, while an elite specialist replaced by a different profile is where the rule works against you.

How to use Statz for super sub betting

Know who is likely to start, who is likely to be replaced, and what the men on the bench produce. The bet builder tips page cross-checks every slip against predicted and confirmed lineups and flags rotation risk; the predicted lineups page projects Premier League starting elevens; the player shots, shots on target, tackles and fouls guides cover the volume markets the sub rules apply to; and the Bet Builder tool prices every player in a covered fixture against the Statz model. The weekly Super Sub Report logs what every Premier League substitution produced - in Gameweek 1 alone, a starter-plus-replacement pair reached a line the starter alone had not more than 90 times across the round.

Super sub betting FAQ

What is a super sub betting site?

A bookmaker whose player-prop bets transfer to the replacement when your player is substituted off. The replacement's statistics continue the line at the original odds, so the bet settles on the pair's combined total rather than dying with the starter.

Which bookmakers have a super sub rule?

At the time of writing: bet365 (as Sub On Play On), Sky Bet and Paddy Power (both as Super Sub), Betfair (Safe Sub) and William Hill (Impact Sub). Markets and competitions differ by book and the terms change, so check for the icon on the slip before you rely on it.

What does Sub On Play On mean at bet365?

It is bet365's name for its substitution rule. On eligible markets marked with the icon, a substituted player's bet is assigned to his replacement with no change in odds, and both players' tallies count toward the line.

What happens if my player does not play at all?

If the player takes no part in the match, bookmakers typically void the leg and return your stake. Once he plays any minutes, the bet stands. Sub rules only enter the picture when a player starts, plays, and is then taken off.

Is being substituted bad for my player bet?

At a book without a sub rule, yes - the line settles on whatever the starter produced. At a super sub bookmaker it depends on the replacement: substitutes produce roughly 1.4 to 1.7 times their own starter per-90 rates in our data, so a like-for-like change can improve your position, while a specialist replaced by a different position is where the rule works against you.

Where can I see what substitutes actually produce?

The weekly Statz Super Sub Report publishes what every Premier League substitution produced - starter, replacement and combined totals - for fouls, shots, shots on target and tackles, every gameweek.
