TOUR Championship 2026 Betting Preview - Three Picks for East Lake

The season ends where it always does. Thirty players, no cut, $40m, and the FedExCup at East Lake Golf Club (27-30 August). Tommy Fleetwood arrives as defending champion, Scottie Scheffler as the best player in the world, and 28 others with four rounds to change how their year is remembered.

What East Lake's history does and does not tell you

You will read that the winning score here is around 24 under. Treat that with care: recent TOUR Championships were played under the staggered starting-strokes format, where the FedExCup leader began the week on 10 under before hitting a shot. Those totals are not comparable to a level start, and they inflate every scoring average built from them.

What does survive is the finishing record. Across ten editions, some players turn up at East Lake and some do not, and our Event Form table lays it out: Xander Schauffele has finished top 10 in all eight of his visits, Russell Henley has three top-10s in four, and at the other end Hideki Matsuyama has an average finishing position of 14.9 from nine attempts. That is the signal we have used to build this card.

A note on the model, too. Our projections are calibrated for full fields of 120 to 156 players. Shrink the field to 30 elite golfers and the maths sharpens the favourite well beyond anything a market would accept, so we are not quoting win percentages this week. Form, venue record and price will do.

Selection 1: Patrick Cantlay - 1.5pts EW at 18/1 (BoyleSports)

The best iron player in the field, at a course he has repeatedly conquered. Cantlay ranks 1st in this 30-man field in strokes gained on approach over his last 16 rounds (+1.24 per round) and 5th in total strokes gained. His East Lake record over the last five editions reads T2, T17, 5th, T7 and a win in 2021 - four top-10s from eight visits overall, with the good ones clustered in recent years. He also finished 2nd in his most recent start. Best price is 18/1 with BoyleSports, a full two points bigger than the 16/1 available elsewhere.

Selection 2: Sam Burns - 1.5pts EW at 18/1 (bet365)

Burns was our headline selection at the BMW and finished 28th, which is the game. Nothing underneath it has changed: he is 3rd in this field on approach form (+0.99 per round) and the season before Bellerive read 3rd, 3rd, 12th, 2nd and 20th. His East Lake record is solid rather than spectacular - T7 last year, two top-10s in five visits - but a 30-man no-cut field is the most forgiving arena there is for a player whose floor is this high.

Selection 3: Viktor Hovland - 1pt EW at 28/1 (BoyleSports)

A former champion of this event: Hovland won at East Lake in 2023 and owns a 67.4 scoring average here across six visits, among the better marks in the field. He arrives 7th in this field for strokes gained over his last 16 rounds (+1.23 per round), and his season carries the shape this event rewards - a win and a 3rd sitting alongside the misses. BoyleSports go 28/1 where most books are 25/1, which is exactly the kind of gap worth shopping for on an outsider.

The champion we are leaving out

Wyndham Clark won the BMW Championship last week and arrives at 16/1, and we are passing. It is the same call we made on Michael Brennan after the Wyndham: back-to-back victories are rare, and the record either side of that BMW win - two missed cuts inside his last six starts - suggests a player who found something for one week rather than one who has settled into a run. If he wins again, he beat us fairly.
