How Statz Rating works:
- Each player receives a contextual match impact score based on their all-round contribution — batting, bowling, and situational factors.
- Ratings are scaled against the season benchmark so they are directly comparable across fixtures and to the season leaderboard.
- A typical top performer scores around 100. Exceptional performances can exceed 100.
Gujarat Titans vs Punjab Kings – IPL 2026 Match Report | Statz
Gujarat Titans won by 4 wickets (with 1 ball remaining) in the 46th match of 74 in the IPL 2026 Regular Season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The win moves GT to 12 points from 10 games but keeps them fifth on net run rate – a precarious position in a tightly packed top half of the table. For Punjab Kings, who came in as league leaders on 13 points, this defeat ended a run of six wins from eight and opened the door for chasing teams to close the gap.
First Innings – Punjab Kings 163/9 (20 overs)
Punjab Kings got off to a horrible start. Priyansh Arya was gone second ball for 2, caught at 2/1 in 0.2 overs. Cooper Connolly followed for a duck off the very next delivery, leaving PBKS reeling at 2/2 inside the first over – Jason Holder the architect of both dismissals.
Prabhsimran Singh (15 off 14) and Shreyas Iyer (19 off 21) steadied the ship but neither could accelerate. Iyer fell bowled by Holder at 47/4 in 8.4 overs after a frustrating 21-ball knock. Nehal Wadhera then consumed six deliveries for a duck, falling at 36/5 in 6.3 overs in what was a damaging middle-order collapse.
The innings was rescued by Suryansh Shedge, who produced the innings of the match with 57 off 29 balls – 3 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 197. He put on a vital partnership alongside Marcus Stoinis (40 off 31), the pair lifting the score from 47/4 to 141/7 with Shedge dismissed caught at 126/6 off 15.6 overs. Marco Jansen then contributed a rapid 20 off 11 (1 six) before falling at 162/9 in over 19.5. 163/9 from 20 overs was competitive given the collapse.
For GT, Jason Holder was exceptional with 4/24 from 4 overs (Econ 6.00). Kagiso Rabada backed him up with 2/22 from 4 including a maiden (Econ 5.50). Mohammed Siraj added 2/28 from 4.
Second Innings – Gujarat Titans 167/6 (19.5 overs)
The chase was never comfortable. Shubman Gill went early for 5 off 4 at 16/1 in 1.3 overs. Jos Buttler (26 off 22) and Sai Sudharsan (57 off 41, 5 fours, 1 six) rebuilt and took GT to 69/2 at 8.1 overs. Buttler was caught at that point, leaving Nishant Sindhu (15 off 11) to chip in before falling at 94/4 in 11.3.
Sudharsan – the anchor – was eventually caught at 124/5 in 14.5 overs with the target still in sight. That brought Rahul Tewatia in, who scratched around for 2 off 6 before being caught at 140/6 in 16.6 overs, leaving GT needing 27 off 19 with only the lower order remaining.
Washington Sundar was the cool head GT needed – 40 not out off 23 balls (5 fours, 1 six, SR 174). He got GT home with Arshad Khan (8* off 5) as they crossed the line with 1 ball to spare. Arshdeep Singh was the pick of PBKS bowling with 2/24 from 4 (Econ 6.00). Vijaykumar Vyshak took 2/31 from 4 (Econ 7.75) but couldnt prevent the result.
Statz MVP – Jason Holder (115.9)
Jason Holder is the clear Statz MVP with a rating of 115.9. The West Indian took 4/24 from 4 overs in the first innings, removing Priyansh Arya, Cooper Connolly, Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera at crucial moments to fundamentally shape the PBKS innings. Statz calculates impact based on match context – and Holders contribution in breaking the early PBKS platform earns him the top rating. He is also the official Man of the Match, a rare occasion where Statz and the match officials are in full agreement.
Top 5 Statz Ratings
- Jason Holder (GT) – 115.9 – 4/24 with the ball, pivotal early wickets broke PBKS open
- Suryansh Shedge (PBKS) – 91.21 – 57 off 29, 5 sixes, rescued a collapsing innings
- Marco Jansen (PBKS) – 72.13 – 20 off 11 with the bat and a wicket in the chase
- Arshdeep Singh (PBKS) – 71.46 – 2/24 from 4 overs, best of the PBKS bowlers
- Washington Sundar (GT) – 67.47 – 40* off 23, the match-winning knock under pressure
Turning Point
The moment the match turned was the dismissal of Shreyas Iyer, clean bowled by Jason Holder in over 8.4, with Punjab Kings at 47/4. Iyer had been trying to rebuild after the horror start and his removal for 19 left PBKS needing their middle order to deliver. The subsequent fall of Wadhera for a duck compounded the damage – from that point PBKS were reliant on Shedges explosiveness to reach a competitive total rather than building to one.
Match Context
This was the 46th match of 74 in the IPL 2026 Regular Season. Gujarat Titans now sit 5th with 12 points from 10 games (W6 L4, NRR -0.147). The negative NRR is their problem – they are level on points with SRH (3rd, NRR +0.644) and RR (4th, NRR +0.51) but trail both on run rate. Punjab Kings drop to 1st on 13 points from 9 games (W6 L2, 1 NR, NRR +0.855) but their lead at the top has been trimmed with 10 games of the regular season played. With RCB just a point behind in 2nd, the top-four race is tightening.
