How Statz Rating works:
- Each player receives a contextual match impact score based on their all-round contribution — batting, bowling, and situational factors.
- Ratings are scaled against the season benchmark so they are directly comparable across fixtures and to the season leaderboard.
- A typical top performer scores around 100. Exceptional performances can exceed 100.
Surrey vs Hampshire – T20 Blast 2026 Match Report | Statz
Lawrence’s Stunning 94* Not Enough as Hampshire Edge Oval Thriller by 5 Runs
Hampshire won by 5 runs against Surrey in Match 40 of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026, played at the Kennington Oval, London. A sensational contest saw 425 runs scored across 40 overs, with Hampshire holding their nerve to stay top of the table with five wins from six. Full scorecard here.
Hampshire Set a Monster Total – 215/5
Surrey won the toss and elected to bowl – a decision that looked increasingly questionable as Hampshire piled on 215/5 from their 20 overs. Toby Albert (39 off 32, 6×4) and Ali Orr (22 off 18) laid a solid platform before the middle order detonated.
Hilton Cartwright was the catalyst. His 40 off just 17 balls at a strike rate of 235 tore Surrey’s bowling apart – four fours and two sixes in a devastating cameo that took Hampshire from 74/2 to 130/3 in the space of five overs. Joe Weatherley continued the assault with 43 off 26 (SR 165), and Tristan Stubbs finished unbeaten on 30 off 18 (SR 167).
The late fireworks came from James Fuller, who smashed an unbeaten 18 off just 6 balls at a strike rate of 300 to push Hampshire past 210. For Surrey, Will Jacks (4-0-29-2, econ 7.25) and Reece Topley (4-0-29-2, econ 7.25) were the only bowlers to emerge with credit. Sean Abbott went for 60 off his four overs.
Jacks and Lawrence Launch Heroic Chase – But Surrey Fall 5 Short
Surrey’s chase started disastrously. Jason Roy fell for a golden duck in the first over, and Ollie Pope managed just 5 off 8 before departing at 37/2 in the fifth over. At 52/3 after Sam Curran (6 off 4) edged behind, the chase looked dead.
Enter Jacks and Daniel Lawrence. The pair put on 88 runs together, with Jacks striking 70 off 42 balls (6×4, 3×6, SR 167) and Lawrence finding his groove with a mix of power and placement. They dragged Surrey back into the contest and had the Oval crowd believing.
Lawrence was extraordinary. His unbeaten 94 off 47 balls (6×4, 6×6, SR 200) was the best innings of the match by raw numbers, and he very nearly pulled off the impossible. But when Jacks was bowled at 140/3 in the 14th over, the momentum shifted. Laurie Evans (7 off 8) and Tom Curran (7 off 6) couldn’t maintain the required rate, and two wickets in the 19th over – Curran and Jordan Clark (0 off 1) falling in successive balls – sealed it for Hampshire.
Chris Wood (4-0-32-3, econ 8) was superb with the ball for Hampshire, while Scott Currie (4-0-24-2, econ 6) was the most economical bowler on either side.

Turning Point – Jacks Bowled at 140/3
The moment this match turned. Will Jacks was clean bowled at 140/3 in over 13.1, and Surrey’s chase never recovered its rhythm. With Jacks at the crease, Surrey needed 76 off 42 balls with seven wickets in hand – entirely gettable at the rate he and Lawrence were going. Without him, the equation shifted. Lawrence kept swinging but ran out of partners, and Surrey’s lower order couldn’t find the boundary when it mattered most.
