The DP World Tour climbs to 1,500m for the Omega European Masters, played over the Crans-sur-Sierre GC from 3 to 6 September for a $3.75m purse. It is the shortest test of the closing swing at 6,814 yards to a par of 70, and the thin Alpine air makes it play shorter still.
That combination produces the softest scoring on this stretch of the calendar. The field averaged under par in round one in each of the last two visits. By contrast, The Belfry played to +1.06 and +1.14 over par in the same window. Crans is a birdie course, and the card has to be built for one.
What does it take to win at Crans?
We now hold seven editions of full-field strokes gained here, back to 2018. Comparing the top-10 finishers against the rest of the field across those years gives a clear picture of which skills actually separate:
| Skill | Top 10 | Field | Edge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Putting | +0.94 | -0.14 | +1.08 |
| Approach | +0.71 | -0.13 | +0.85 |
| Around the green | +0.64 | -0.09 | +0.73 |
| Off the tee | +0.50 | -0.10 | +0.60 |
Putting is the biggest separator and driving the smallest, across 81 top-10 player-events. That is the opposite of a bomber's track. Length is neutralised by the altitude, so the scoring comes from wedges and the short stick on small, sloping greens.
Winning scores since 2018: -17, -14, -13, -18, -19, -11 and -22. A mean of -16.3, but note that range. Crans has produced both the softest and the hardest winning total of any venue on this swing, so treat any single projection here with more caution than usual. Our model lands on -16.
Who is trending right now?
Form below is measured over each player's last 16 rounds on the DP World Tour, ranked within this week's 151-man field. These are native DPWT numbers, not adjusted to a PGA Tour baseline.
The standout is Keita Nakajima, second in the field at +1.50 strokes gained per round. Behind him, Marcus Helligkilde (6th) and Nacho Elvira (7th) are both inside the top ten, and Tom Vaillant sits 13th.
The name the market wants is Matt Wallace, and his Crans record is the best in the field by a distance: won in 2024, second in 2022, T2 in 2025. He is 4th in the field for approach play. We are not opposing him on merit, only on price. At 12/1 the market has priced that course record in full, and our model makes him a shade of value either way. There is no edge to take.
Selection 1: Keita Nakajima, 30/1
Our model's third-ranked player and the biggest combination of form and price on the board. Nakajima is 2nd of 147 in the field over his last 16 rounds, and 22nd for putting, which matters more here than anywhere else on this swing. He finished T17 at Crans last year on his only visit, and has a T4 and a T3 among his last five starts.
The caveat worth stating: his 2026 DP World Tour schedule is light because he has been playing in America. That is a scheduling fact, not a form concern, and his 135 all-time DPWT rounds mean the rating behind him is well sampled.
Selection 2: Nacho Elvira, 55/1
The deepest Crans record on our card. Elvira has seven visits in our data going back to 2018, including 4th that year, T13 in 2021 and T9 in 2022. He arrives 7th in the field for form at +1.26 per round and was runner-up in his most recent start.
Honest about the other side: his recent Crans returns have cooled, with T55 last year and T39 in 2024. This is a bet on a player who has repeatedly gone well at a course he clearly likes, arriving in the best form of the four.
Selection 3: Marcus Helligkilde, 75/1
Sixth in the field for form and 7th for approach play, with a T13 here in 2023 and a T7 two starts back. At 75/1 he carries the second-biggest price edge on our card.
The caveat, and it is a real one: he ranks 103rd of 147 in this field for putting, at a venue where putting is the single biggest separator between the top ten and everyone else. His approach numbers are strong enough to get him into contention. Whether the putter holds up over four rounds on these greens is the question the price is paying you to take on.
Longshot: Tom Vaillant, 80/1
The largest gap between our model and the market anywhere in the field. Vaillant is 13th for form at +1.11 per round, 14th for approach, and finished T17 here last year.
Stated plainly: his last five finishes read T21, MC, T55, MC, T26. The underlying strokes gained are considerably better than the results, which is precisely the profile that produces a big price on a player trending in the right direction. It is a longshot for a reason.
