Trent Rockets beat Sunrisers Leeds by 5 runs – The Hundred Match Report
Trent Rockets won by 5 runs in the 17th match of 34 in The Hundred 2026 at Trent Bridge. Ben Duckett struck a commanding 64 off 47 balls to steer the hosts to 146 for 4, before Mohammad Amir‘s death bowling proved decisive as Sunrisers Leeds fell agonisingly short at 141 for 4. The victory keeps Trent Rockets top of the table with 3 wins from 4 matches, while Leeds slip to sixth despite their second win of the campaign.
Rockets Build Platform on Duckett’s Aggression
Trent Rockets won the toss and elected to bat, with Ben Duckett immediately taking the attack to the Sunrisers attack. The opener smashed 9 fours across his 47-ball innings at a strike rate of 136, anchoring the innings with authority. Finn Allen fell cheaply for 2 at 5 for 1 in the second ball, bowled by Brydon Carse, but Duckett refused to be rattled.
Aneurin Donald provided explosive support in the middle overs, smashing 40 off just 19 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 211 to propel Rockets from 68 for 2 in the eighth over. His 63-run partnership with Duckett proved the match-winning stand. Sam Billings (9 off 8) fell lbw at 85 for 4, but Tim David (24 not out off 22, 1 four, 1 six) and Mitchell Santner (1 not out) saw Rockets through to 146 for 4 from their 100 balls.
Carse was Leeds’ standout bowler with 2 for 20 from 3.2 overs, while Abrar Ahmed took 1 for 23 and Nathan Ellis claimed 1 for 26. Matty Potts and Liam Patterson-White were expensive, conceding 35 and 30 respectively.
Leeds Chase Falls Just Short
Mitchell Marsh led the Sunrisers reply with 41 off 35 balls (2 fours, 2 sixes), but the chase never quite gathered momentum. Ryan Rickelton was dismissed for a duck at 7 for 1 in the second ball, before Zak Crawley (26 off 16, 4 fours, 1 six) provided a brief spark at 46 for 2 in the seventh over.
Harry Brook struck 46 off 33 balls (4 fours) to keep Leeds in contention, building a 71-run stand with Marsh that took the chase to 122 for 1 in the 18th ball. But Amir’s death bowling proved the difference – he took 2 for 20 from 3.2 overs at an economy of 6.25, removing both Marsh and Brook in quick succession to shift the balance decisively. Craig Overton took 1 for 11 from 1.4 overs, while Mitchell Santner claimed 1 for 27 from 2.3. Daniel Lawrence (14 not out off 8, 2 fours) and Tom Alsop (10 not out off 5, 1 four) fought hard but couldn’t bridge the 5-run gap.
