Sunrisers Leeds Innings – Marsh Dominates
Southern Brave won the toss and elected to bowl, but Mitchell Marsh had other ideas. The Australian struck 4 fours and 6 sixes in a 34-ball blitz at a strike rate of 203, dismantling the Southern Brave attack from the outset. Ryan Rickelton complemented the onslaught with 37 off 27 (4 fours, 1 six), and the pair added 111 runs in just 11.1 overs to set the platform.
When Marsh fell caught at 112 for 1 in the 11th over, Daniel Lawrence took the baton without missing a beat. The right-hander smashed 51 off 25 (4 fours, 3 sixes) at a strike rate of 204, remaining unbeaten to steer Sunrisers to 187 for 5. Tom Alsop added late impetus with 21 off 10 (1 four, 2 sixes), while Harry Brook fell for 3 and Zak Crawley departed for a duck.
Adil Rashid was the standout bowler for Southern Brave, taking 3 for 21 from 3.2 overs at an economy of 6.3. Chris Jordan claimed 1 for 29 from 3.2 overs, while Marcus Stoinis took 1 for 29 from 2.3. Jofra Archer and Luke Wood went for 47 and 40 respectively, leaking runs at alarming rates.
Southern Brave Chase Falls Short
Ben McKinney gave Southern Brave hope with a rapid 44 off 23 (6 fours, 2 sixes) at a strike rate of 191, but the chase stuttered when he fell caught at 67 for 2 in the 7th over. Jamie Smith contributed 30 off 18 (1 four, 3 sixes) before departing at 80 for 1.
Marcus Stoinis struck 31 off 16 (4 fours, 1 six) to keep the visitors in contention, but his dismissal at 121 for 4 in the 13th over proved pivotal. David Miller managed just 9 off 7, and Nikhil Chaudhary added 14 off 13 before falling at 163 for 5.
Tristan Stubbs blazed 43 off 20 (3 fours, 3 sixes) at a strike rate of 215 to give Southern Brave a sniff, but the damage was already done. Chris Jordan finished unbeaten on 6 off 3, but Southern Brave fell 5 runs short at 182 for 5.
Abrar Ahmed took 2 for 33 from 3.2 overs for Sunrisers, while Matty Potts, Nathan Ellis and Matthew Revis each claimed 1 wicket. The bowling was tidy but lacked the penetration to strangle the chase entirely.
