South Africa beat Zimbabwe by 48 runs – Tri-Nation Series Match Report
South Africa won by 48 runs in the 13th match of 20 in the Tri-Nation Series at Namibia Cricket Ground, Windhoek. A dominant batting display, anchored by Jordan Hermann‘s 53 off 29 balls, propelled South Africa to 205 for 5, before their bowling attack dismantled Zimbabwe’s chase to secure a commanding victory. The win lifts South Africa to 1st (3W 1L, 6pts) in the league phase, while Zimbabwe remain 2nd (2W 2L, 4pts) and face an uphill battle to secure their playoff spot.
South Africa’s Explosive Batting Display
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat, and their top order made the decision pay immediately. Connor Esterhuizen set the tone with 32 off 23 balls (3 fours, 2 sixes), striking at 139 before falling at 84/1 in the 7th over. Jordan Hermann then took centre stage, unleashing a masterclass with 53 off just 29 balls (8 fours, 1 six) at a strike rate of 183. His aggressive approach, combined with Dewald Brevis‘s 32 off 23 (2 fours, 2 sixes), built a formidable platform.
Tony de Zorzi contributed 17 off 11 before being stumped at 122/4 in the 12th over, but the damage was done. Rubin Hermann (27 off 16, 3 fours, 1 six) and Duan Jansen (23 off 14, 4 fours) provided late-order acceleration to push South Africa past 200. Zimbabwe’s bowling was expensive throughout – Newman Nyamhuri took 2 for 51 from 4 overs, while Brad Evans claimed 2 for 36 from 4 despite a strong all-round showing.
Zimbabwe’s Chase Crumbles Early
Zimbabwe’s reply never gained traction. Brian Bennett fell for 6 at 14/1 in the 1st over, and Ben Curran was dismissed for a duck at 1/2 in the 2nd ball. Innocent Kaia (9 off 11) and Wesley Madhevere (6 off 5) offered little resistance as Zimbabwe slumped to 25/4 in the 3rd over.
Sikandar Raza (16 off 18, 1 six) and Ryan Burl (13 off 10, 2 fours) attempted to stabilise, but the chase was effectively over. Brad Evans provided the only genuine resistance with 56 off 31 balls (4 fours, 4 sixes) at a strike rate of 181, but he lacked support. Kundai Matigimu (19 off 11, 2 sixes) and Blessing Muzarabani (8 off 5, 1 six) offered late-order cameos, but Zimbabwe were bowled out for 157 in 18 overs, falling 48 runs short.
South Africa’s Bowling Dominance
Duan Jansen was the standout bowler, taking 3 for 38 from 3 overs with an economy of 12.67, dismantling Zimbabwe’s middle order. Bjorn Fortuin was equally impressive with 3 for 24 from 4 overs at an economy of just 6, strangling the chase with his left-arm spin. Eathan Bosch took 2 for 22 from 3 overs, while Kwena Maphaka chipped in with 1 for 9 from 2 overs. South Africa’s bowling attack was relentless, allowing Zimbabwe no momentum whatsoever.
Statz MVP: Brad Evans (Statz Rating: 136.6)
Brad Evans earns the Statz MVP award with a rating of 136.6, the highest individual impact of the match. Evans’ all-round contribution kept Zimbabwe competitive despite the early collapse, though it proved insufficient to challenge South Africa’s total.

Turning Point
The match turned decisively in the opening overs of Zimbabwe’s chase. Ben Curran‘s dismissal for a duck at 1/2 in the 2nd ball (0.2 overs) left Zimbabwe reeling, and the loss of Innocent Kaia, Wesley Madhevere, and Ryan Burl in quick succession meant Zimbabwe never recovered. By the time Brad Evans arrived at the crease, the asking rate was prohibitive and South Africa’s bowlers had established complete control.
