Guyana Amazon Warriors won by 9 runs (D/S method) in the 22nd match of 39 in the Caribbean Premier League 2026 at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain. Shimron Hetmyer delivered a masterclass with an unbeaten 111 off 43 balls – striking at 258 with 8 fours and 9 sixes – to propel the Warriors to 185 for 5 and secure a fourth consecutive win. Trinbago Knight Riders fell short at 172 for 7 despite spirited batting from Alex Hales and Nicholas Pooran. The Warriors remain unbeaten at the top of the group with 4 wins from 4 matches (8pts), while Trinbago slip to fifth (2W 5L, 4pts) with their playoff hopes fading.
Guyana’s Explosive Batting Display
Trinbago won the toss and elected to bowl, but the decision backfired spectacularly. Glenn Phillips fell for a duck at 0/1 in the first over, caught off Akeal Hosein, but Shai Hope struck two sixes in a quickfire 16 off 11 before holing out at 19/2. Matthew Nandu contributed 13 off 21 before retiring out at 67/3, but the real damage came from Hetmyer.
Hetmyer’s assault was relentless. Arriving at the crease with the Warriors at 67/3 in the eighth over, he took the attack to Trinbago’s bowlers with devastating effect. By the time Mohammad Nabi was caught for 6 at 100/4, Hetmyer had already plundered 44 runs. Quentin Sampson chipped in with 7 off 4 (1 six) before being bowled at 140/5, but the final flourish belonged to Romario Shepherd. In a stunning cameo, Shepherd smashed 27 off just 7 balls – striking at 386 with 2 fours and 3 sixes – to push Guyana past 180. Hetmyer remained unbeaten on 111, his innings a tour de force that set an imposing target.
Lahiru Kumara was expensive for Trinbago, conceding 55 from 3 overs at an economy of 18.33. Dominic Drakes also leaked runs, going for 40 from 2 overs, while Jyd Goolie conceded 16 from 1 over. Only Sunil Narine (1/25 from 4) and Usman Tariq (1/18 from 3) offered resistance.
Trinbago’s Chase Falls Short
Trinbago’s reply began promisingly. Colin Munro struck 22 off 18 (4 fours) before being caught at 52/1, and Narine departed for 1 at 17/2. But Nicholas Pooran exploded with 43 off just 16 balls – striking at 269 with 3 fours and 4 sixes – to keep Trinbago in the hunt at 67/3 in the sixth over.
Alex Hales then took centre stage with a brilliant 55 off 24 (1 four, 7 sixes) at a strike rate of 229. His partnership with Pooran had lifted Trinbago to 150/3 in the 14th over, but the Warriors’ bowlers tightened the screws. Hales was bowled by Nabi at 150/4, Pooran had fallen earlier at 67/3, and Jyd Goolie was lbw for 0 at 67/5. Justin Greaves was bowled by Nabi at 68/6, leaving Trinbago needing 18 off the final over.
Joshua Da Silva (13 off 5, 3 fours) and Akeal Hosein (18 off 11, 3 fours) fought hard in the lower order, but the target proved too steep. Dominic Drakes remained unbeaten on 14 off 13, but Trinbago fell 9 runs short under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
