Jamaica Kingsmen beat Trinbago Knight Riders by 7 runs (D/L Method) – Caribbean Premier League Match Report
Jamaica Kingsmen won by 7 runs (D/L Method) in the 20th match of 39 in the Caribbean Premier League at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain. A rain-affected contest saw Trinbago Knight Riders post 180 for 6 from their full 20 overs, but Jamaica’s revised target under the Duckworth-Lewis method proved just out of reach as they finished 127 for 3 from 14.4 overs. The result lifts Jamaica to 2nd on 8 points (4W 4L) with a net run rate of 0.054, while Trinbago slip to 5th (2W 4L, 4pts) and face mounting pressure in the group stage.
Trinbago’s Batting Blitz
Colin Munro set the tone with 52 off 42 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes) as Trinbago’s opening stand built momentum early. But the real fireworks came from Sunil Narine, who exploded for 53 off just 24 balls (6 fours, 3 sixes) at a strike rate of 221 to propel the home side through the middle overs. Narine’s dismissal at 101 for 2 in the 8th over (ball 8.5) marked a turning point, but Nicholas Pooran took over with a composed 60 not out off 37 balls (5 fours, 3 sixes, strike rate 162) to anchor the innings through the death overs.
Trinbago’s middle order crumbled around Pooran – Kieron Pollard fell for a duck at 120 for 3 in the 13th over (ball 13.2), and Matthew Tromp managed just one ball before departing at the same score. Alex Hales was clean bowled for 5 at 160 for 6 in the 18th over (ball 18.3), and Jyd Goolie fell the next ball at 160 for 7. Despite the collapse, Pooran’s unbeaten half-century and a quickfire 4 off 2 from Dominic Drakes pushed Trinbago to 180.
Vitel Lawes was Jamaica’s standout bowler with 3 for 29 from 4 overs (economy 7.25), while Hunain Shah claimed 2 for 27 from 4. Keemo Paul went for 46 from 3 overs but picked up a wicket, and Saim Ayub conceded 37 from 4 without taking a wicket.
Jamaica’s Chase Under Pressure
Rain interrupted Jamaica’s chase, and the revised D/L target became the decisive factor. Maaz Sadaqat fell early for 12 at 18 for 1 in the 1st over (ball 1.6), but Kirk McKenzie steadied with 30 off 25 (4 fours, 1 six) before being caught at 68 for 2 in the 8th over (ball 8.1). Keacy Carty then took charge with 42 off 33 (5 fours, strike rate 127), building a crucial partnership with Saim Ayub, who finished unbeaten on 24 off 18 (1 six, strike rate 133).
Carty’s dismissal – clean bowled at 120 for 3 in the 13th over (ball 13.6) – came at a critical juncture, but Rovman Powell smashed an unbeaten 5 off 2 (1 four, strike rate 250) to edge Jamaica across the line. Jyd Goolie was Jamaica’s most effective bowler with 2 for 30 from 4 overs, while Usman Tariq took 1 for 28 from 3. Narine returned to bowl 2.4 overs for 20 runs without a wicket.

Turning Point
The rain interruption and the subsequent Duckworth-Lewis recalculation proved pivotal. Jamaica’s revised target was significantly more achievable than a full 20-over chase of 180, and the shortened format favoured their batting lineup. Carty’s dismissal at 120 for 3 in the 13th over (ball 13.6) could have derailed Jamaica, but Ayub’s composure and Powell’s late flourish ensured they crossed the line with overs to spare.
