Jamaica Kingsmen beat Trinbago Knight Riders by 5 wickets (with 8 balls remaining) – Caribbean Premier League Match Report
Jamaica Kingsmen won by 5 wickets (with 8 balls remaining) in the 8th match of 39 in the Caribbean Premier League 2026 at Sabina Park, Kingston. Kirk McKenzie produced a devastating 69 off just 25 balls – striking at 276 with 6 fours and 6 sixes – to propel the Kingsmen to a commanding chase and condemn Trinbago Knight Riders to defeat on home soil.
Trinbago’s 182 – Pollard Late Flourish
Trinbago won the toss and elected to bat, but Jamaica’s bowling attack made early inroads. Alex Hales struck 29 off 21 (2 fours, 2 sixes) before falling caught at 70/1 in the 10th over. Colin Munro managed just 16 off 26 at 37/2 in the 5th over, leaving Trinbago’s top order stuttering.
Nicholas Pooran steadied the ship with 44 off 32 (1 four, 4 sixes), but the decisive blow came from Kieron Pollard, who smashed 44 off just 22 balls (3 fours, 4 sixes) at a strike rate of 200. Pollard’s assault lifted Trinbago from 137/3 in the 15th over to 145/4 in the 16th, though Andre Russell struck twice to finish with 2/34 from 4 overs. Hunain Shah took 2/31 from 4, while Keemo Paul claimed 1/31 from 3. Sunil Narine finished unbeaten on 19 off 8 (2 fours, 1 six) to push Trinbago to 182/6.
Jamaica’s Chase – McKenzie Demolition
Jamaica’s reply began explosively. Kirk McKenzie announced himself with a brutal assault, racing to 69 off 25 (6 fours, 6 sixes) at a strike rate of 276 before falling bowled at 93/1 in the 6th over. His innings – the highest individual score of the match – set the tone entirely, and though his dismissal came with Jamaica still needing 90 off 13 overs, the damage was done.
Reeza Hendricks provided crucial support with 37 off 29 (4 fours, 1 six), building a 21-run stand with Shayan Jahangir (2 off 4) before Jahangir fell bowled at 103/2 in the 8th over. Keacy Carty (11 off 14) was caught at 126/4 in the 13th over, but Rovman Powell (29 not out off 22, 2 fours, 1 six) and Andre Russell (27 off 15, 3 fours, 2 sixes) sealed the chase with a 48-run partnership in the final overs.
Usman Tariq was Trinbago’s standout bowler with 3/21 from 4 overs at an economy of 5.25, but even his miserly spell could not slow Jamaica’s momentum. Sunil Narine conceded just 21 from 4 overs (economy 5.25) but took no wickets, while Terrance Hinds went for 48 from 3 overs.
Statz MVP: Usman Tariq (Statz Rating: 146.92)
Usman Tariq earns the Statz MVP award with a rating of 146.92 – the highest impact performance of the evening. Despite Trinbago’s defeat, Tariq’s 3/21 from 4 overs was the most economical bowling display on either side, and his control in the powerplay and death overs kept Jamaica’s run rate in check. Statz calculates impact based on match context and opposition quality, and Tariq’s precision against a rampant batting lineup was exceptional.
