First Innings – Sri Lanka 147/9 (20 overs)
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat, but lost their way badly in the powerplay. Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka put on 43 for the first wicket in 4.2 overs before the wheels came off spectacularly. Nissanka was clean bowled for 18 off 14, and Lasith Croospulle fell LBW for a golden duck the very next ball – 43/2 in the space of two deliveries. Pavan Rathnayake made just 4 before being caught at 49/3 in the sixth over.
Kusal Mendis counter-attacked with 36 off 23 balls, striking two fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 157, but his departure at 65/4 in the eighth over left Sri Lanka in trouble. Kamindu Mendis and Dasun Shanaka rebuilt with a partnership of 59 for the fifth wicket, Shanaka contributing 22 off 23 before being caught at 124/5 in the 16th over.
Kamindu Mendis was Sri Lanka’s standout with 51 off 39 balls (four fours, two sixes, SR 131), but once Shanaka fell, the lower order crumbled. Wanindu Hasaranga managed just 3 off 6 before being caught at 138/6, Maheesh Theekshana made 1 off 5 (139/7), and two run outs in the final over – Kamindu Mendis at 144/8 (19.4) and Dushmantha Chameera at 147/9 (19.6) – summed up a chaotic finish.
Jason Holder was the pick of the West Indian attack with 3/18 from four overs at an economy of 4.50. Shamar Joseph matched him with 3/29 from four overs, though his economy of 7.25 was less miserly. Roston Chase chipped in with 1/19 from four tidy overs at an economy of 4.75.
Second Innings – West Indies 149/3 (19.2 overs)
Brandon King set the tone with an aggressive 37 off 22 balls, smashing two fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 168. He and Hope put on 67 for the first wicket in 6.2 overs before King was bowled by Eshan Malinga.
Shimron Hetmyer maintained the momentum with 17 off 9 (two fours, one six, SR 189) before being caught at 95/2 in the ninth over. Roston Chase steadied things with 16 off 26 alongside Hope, though his strike rate of 62 slowed the chase momentarily. When Chase was bowled by Hasaranga at 128/3 in the 17th over, Rovman Powell came in and smashed 10 off 6 balls including a six to help Hope finish the job.
Hope was the glue of the chase with an unbeaten 65 off 54 balls (five fours, two sixes, SR 120). It was not a flashy innings, but it was exactly what the chase required – a composed anchor while others attacked around him. Hasaranga was Sri Lanka’s best bowler with 2/32 from four overs, while Malinga took 1/26. Dilshan Madushanka went for 39 from 3.2 overs without a wicket.
