SRH vs RCB – IPL 2026 Match Report | Statz
Sunrisers Hyderabad won by 55 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 67th match of 74 in the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. With both sides locked on 18 points, this was a statement win from SRH – a dominant batting display on home turf that moves them firmly into playoff contention and deals table-topping RCB a first defeat in three.
First Innings – Sunrisers Hyderabad 255/4 (20 overs)
SRH won the toss and chose to bat – and the decision paid off handsomely. Travis Head set the tone early with 26 off 16 balls, cracking five fours before being clean bowled at 45/1 in the 4th over. That brought Ishan Kishan to the crease, and what followed was a masterclass in aggressive accumulation.
Abhishek Sharma was utterly destructive at the top, smashing 56 off just 22 balls at a strike rate of 255 with four fours and five sixes. He and Kishan put on 52 runs for the second wicket before Sharma was caught off a substitute fielder at 97/2 in the 9th over. It was a breathtaking innings that set the platform for everything that followed.
Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen then took the game away completely. Klaasen was in trademark form – 51 off 24 balls at a strike rate of 213, launching five sixes before being caught at 210/3 in the 17th over. Kishan anchored the innings superbly with 79 off 46 (SR 172), hitting eight fours and three sixes, dismissed off the last ball of the innings at 255/4. Nitish Kumar Reddy added a handy unbeaten 29 off 12 at the death.
RCB’s bowlers were taken apart across the board. Bhuvneshwar Kumar went for 0/51 off four overs (economy 12.75), Josh Hazlewood conceded 0/55 off four at 13.75, and Rasikh Salam Dar took 2/52 off four at 13.00. Suyash Sharma managed 1/36 from three, Krunal Pandya took 1/24 from two, and Romario Shepherd went for 0/37 from three. Not a single RCB bowler finished with an economy under 12.
Second Innings – Royal Challengers Bengaluru 200/4 (20 overs)
Chasing 256, RCB needed a fast start and Venkatesh Iyer delivered exactly that. The opener blazed 43 off just 19 balls at a strike rate of 226, clattering four fours and four sixes to race RCB to 60/1 in the 5th over before being caught. It was explosive, but it was not enough to spark a sustained assault.
Virat Kohli made 15 off 11 before being caught at 74/2 in the 6th over, and Devdutt Padikkal fell for 21 off 14 at 94/3 in the 9th over. Three wickets for 34 runs between overs 4.3 and 8.5 effectively ended the chase as a realistic contest – RCB needed 162 from 69 balls at that point.
Rajat Patidar fought hard with 56 off 39 (SR 144, six fours, one six), and Krunal Pandya batted through for an unbeaten 41 off 31 (five fours). Tim David added a brisk 15 not out off 7 at the death, but the asking rate was always beyond them. RCB finished on 200/4 – a competitive total in most circumstances, but well short of 256.
Eshan Malinga was the standout with the ball for SRH, taking 2/33 off four overs at an economy of 8.25 – comfortably the best figures on either side. Sakib Hussain picked up 1/31 from four (economy 7.75), while Travis Head chipped in with 1/7 from his single over. Harshal Patel was economical with 0/37 from four at 9.25.
Statz MVP – Abhishek Sharma (93.41)
The Statz algorithm, which calculates impact based on match context, hands the MVP award to Abhishek Sharma with a rating of 93.41 out of 100. His 56 off 22 at a strike rate of 255 set the tone for SRH’s mammoth total, and the timing of his runs – in the powerplay where fielding restrictions amplify boundary value – drove his impact score to elite levels. This is Sharma’s season average scaled rating of 57.81 across 14 matches being dwarfed by a single-game performance that ranks near his season best.
The official Player of the Match went to Ishan Kishan for his 79 off 46 – a worthy choice for the innings anchor. But Statz sees it differently: Sharma’s powerplay blitz created the platform that made Kishan’s accumulation possible. Context matters, and the algorithm reflects that.
Top 5 Statz Ratings
1. Abhishek Sharma (SRH) – 93.41 – Powerplay destruction incarnate. 56 off 22 balls at SR 255 with five sixes set up the entire innings.
2. Venkatesh Iyer (RCB) – 78.39 – Gave RCB the perfect start with 43 off 19 at SR 226. Four sixes in a losing effort still registered as high-impact.
3. Ishan Kishan (SRH) – 70.33 – The official MoM. 79 off 46 with eight fours and three sixes anchored the innings from first wicket to last ball.
4. Eshan Malinga (SRH) – 69.62 – Best bowling figures in the match. 2/33 off four overs at economy 8.25 when every other bowler leaked runs freely.
5. Heinrich Klaasen (SRH) – 69.53 – The middle-overs accelerator. 51 off 24 at SR 213 with five sixes pushed SRH past 200 and into untouchable territory.
Turning Point
Virat Kohli caught for 15 off Eshan Malinga at 74/2 in the 6th over. RCB had been flying at nearly 15 an over through Venkatesh Iyer’s assault, and Kohli’s early presence at the crease offered hope of sustained pressure. His dismissal triggered a collapse of three wickets for 34 runs in the space of 25 balls, turning a live chase into a mathematical impossibility. By the time Devdutt Padikkal fell at 94/3 in the 9th over, RCB needed an impossible 162 from 69 balls.
Match Context
This was the 67th match of 74 in the IPL 2026 regular season, and it had real significance at the top of the table. Both teams came in on 18 points – RCB sitting 1st (W9 L5, NRR +0.744) and SRH 3rd (W9 L5, NRR +0.524), with Gujarat Titans wedged between them in 2nd on the same points with NRR +0.695.
The 55-run margin will give SRH’s net run rate a healthy boost as the final league games play out. For RCB, it is a rare blip rather than a crisis – they remain top with their superior NRR cushion – but being blown away at Hyderabad is a reminder that SRH at home, with this top order firing, are a serious threat heading into the playoffs.
