Kolkata Knight Riders vs Mumbai Indians – IPL 2026 Match Report | Statz
Kolkata Knight Riders beat Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets (with 7 balls remaining) at Eden Gardens to claim a vital win in the 65th match of 74 in the IPL 2026 Regular Season. The result lifts KKR to 6th in the standings on 13 points, keeping their playoff hopes breathing, while Mumbai Indians slip to 9th with just 8 points from 13 games – their season all but done.
First Innings – Mumbai Indians: 147/8 (20 overs)
KKR won the toss and elected to bowl at Eden Gardens, a decision that looked sharp early as the top order crumbled. Ryan Rickelton lasted just 7 balls, caught for 6 with the score at 17 in over 2.3. Naman Dhir contributed nothing – dismissed for a duck with the score still at 17 in over 2.6. That was already 2 wickets down with barely 17 on the board.
Rohit Sharma offered brief resistance with 15 off 13 including two sixes, but went at 23/3 in over 3.5, caught in the deep. Suryakumar Yadav exploded briefly – 15 off just 6 balls at a strike rate of 250, with two fours and a six – before being cleaned up by Saurabh Dubey for 41/4 in over 5.3.
MI needed a rebuild, and Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya steadied things. Tilak ground out 20 off 32 – painfully below his strike rate norms – before being caught at 84/5 in over 13.4. Pandya fell shortly after for 26 off 27, bowled at 95/6 in over 15.2 with Cameron Green doing the damage. Will Jacks muscled 14 off 7 before a run out ended the over-15 carnage at 105/7 in over 16.4.
It fell to Corbin Bosch to rescue MI’s total. The South African all-rounder smashed an unbeaten 32 off 18 – three fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 178 – dragging the total to 147/8. Cameron Green (2/23) and Saurabh Dubey (2/34) were the key wicket-takers, with Sunil Narine’s 1/13 from 4 overs at an economy of 3.25 the pick of the attack.
Second Innings – Kolkata Knight Riders: 148/6 (18.5 overs)
KKR’s chase started shakily. Finn Allen – so destructive in recent weeks – was bowled for 8 off 5 by Bosch in the very first over, the score just 10/1 in over 0.6. Ajinkya Rahane led from the top with 21 off 17 – four boundaries, calm and composed – before being caught at 48/2 in over 5.4.
Cameron Green joined Manish Pandey in the middle and despite Green contributing only 4 off 8 before being caught at 54/3 in over 7.1, Pandey took control. The veteran batter was exceptional – 45 off 33, six fours, striking at 136 – building the innings ball by ball. Bosch took his third wicket to dismiss Pandey at 118/4 in over 14.6, a dismissal that briefly opened the door for MI.
Rovman Powell answered the call with a composed 40 off 30 – four fours and two sixes – taking KKR to 124/5 in over 15.2 when he was caught off Jasprit Bumrah. Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy saw KKR home from there – needing 24 off the last 5 overs with 4 wickets in hand – finishing with 148/6 in 18.5 overs. Bumrah conceded just 26 from 4 overs (economy 6.50) but Bosch’s 3/30 – costly yet ultimately winning – was MI’s outstanding effort with the ball. AM Ghazanfar chipped in with 1/25 from 4 overs at a tidy economy of 6.25.

The South African delivered a genuine all-round contribution: 32 not out with the bat to push MI to a competitive 147, then 3/30 in 3 overs with the ball to keep KKR honest throughout the chase.

Turning Point
The dismissal of Manish Pandey – bowled by Corbin Bosch in over 14.6 with the score at 118/4 – was the moment that changed the complexion of the chase. KKR needed 30 from 31 balls with 6 wickets remaining; workable, but suddenly nervy. Pandey’s departure meant three new batters needed to see it home, and Rovman Powell getting out in over 15.2 for 40 left two overs of genuine tension before Rinku and Anukul finished the job.
