Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru – IPL 2026 Match Report | Statz
Bhuvneshwar Kumar Dismantles Delhi Capitals as RCB Close In on Playoffs
Royal Challengers Bengaluru moved firmly into playoff contention with a stunning 9-wicket demolition of Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Royal Challengers Bengaluru won by 9 wickets (with 81 balls remaining) – the 39th match of 74 in the Indian Premier League 2026. It was a performance of almost contemptuous ease, Delhi bowled out for 75 in 16.3 overs before RCB knocked off the target in just 6.3. With the top four tightening, this result pushed RCB to 2nd in the table and left DC’s season on a knife edge.
First Innings: Delhi Capitals Crumble to 75 All Out
Delhi needed a platform. What they got was a disaster. Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck with the very first delivery, Sahil Parakh bowled for a duck (0/0.2). Two balls later in the same over, Lokesh Rahul was caught for 1 – DC already 2/2 inside the first over. Sameer Rizvi went for 0 at 2/1.2, then Tristan Stubbs managed a brief 5 off 3 before falling at 7/2.1. Axar Patel, Delhi’s own captain and all-round threat, contributed nothing – out for 0 at 7/2.4. Five wickets gone for 7 runs in under three overs. The game was effectively over before it began.
From the wreckage, Nitish Rana scratched for 1 off 9 balls (out at 8/3.5) and David Miller provided the only real resistance lower down, making 19 off 18 with three fours before being caught at 43/8.6. Kyle Jamieson struck a useful 12 off 13 (LBW at 62/12.3), and Abishek Porel was the last man standing with a dogged 30 off 33 balls, out last for 75 all out in the 17th over.
The RCB bowling was exceptional across the board. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was unplayable – 3/5 in 3 overs, economy 1.67. Suyash Sharma followed up with a miserly 1/7 in 4 overs including a maiden (economy 1.75). Josh Hazlewood picked up 4/12 in 3.3 overs (economy 3.43). Krunal Pandya took 1/9 in 2 overs. The only loose overs came from Rasikh Salam Dar and Romario Shepherd (21 runs apiece from 2 overs each), but by then the damage was done.
Second Innings: RCB Cruise Home in 6.3 Overs
Chasing 76, RCB needed just 39 deliveries. Jacob Bethell launched the chase with 20 off 11 balls – two fours, two sixes, strike rate 182 – before being caught at 26/2.5. That was the only wicket to fall. Virat Kohli finished unbeaten on 23 off 15 (two sixes) and Devdutt Padikkal was in devastating touch at the death – 34 not out off just 13 balls, three fours, three sixes, strike rate 262. The pair put on an unbroken 51 off 25 balls to complete the job with 13.3 overs remaining.
For Delhi, only Jamieson (1/42 in 3 overs) took a wicket in the chase, though his economy of 14 told its own story. Dushmantha Chameera went for 18 in 2 overs without reward. Thangarasu Natarajan conceded 12 from just 3 balls. Abishek Porel bowled an over (1/5) but RCB were already home.
Statz MVP: Bhuvneshwar Kumar (145.02/100)
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the Statz MVP with a rating of 145.02/100 – a formula that calculates impact based on match context. His 3/5 in 3 overs (economy 1.67) at the top of the innings effectively ended the contest by over 3, taking out three of Delhi’s top batters at the most critical phase. That is the kind of match-shaping contribution the Statz model rewards heavily.
The official Player of the Match went to Josh Hazlewood (4/12), and it is a reasonable call given his wicket haul. But Statz disagrees – Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s three wickets in three overs came when DC were still capable of posting a competitive score. Those early strikes made Hazlewood’s later scalps largely academic. Two legitimate cases; two different ways to measure value.
Top 5 Statz Ratings
- Josh Hazlewood (RCB) – 126 Dream11 pts – 4/12 in 3.3 overs, economy 3.43. Four wickets in a 75-all-out demolition. Official MoM.
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar (RCB) – 97 Dream11 pts, Statz MVP 145.02/100 – 3/5 in 3 overs, economy 1.67. Dismantled DC’s top order in the opening exchanges.
- Devdutt Padikkal (RCB) – 94 Dream11 pts – 34* off 13 balls, SR 262. Turned the chase into a six-hitting exhibition.
- Suyash Sharma (RCB) – 55 Dream11 pts – 1/7 in 4 overs, economy 1.75. A miserly spell that suffocated DC’s middle order.
- Abishek Porel (DC) – 50 Dream11 pts – 30 off 33 balls. The only DC batter to show any resistance on a brutal afternoon.
Turning Point: The Bhuvneshwar Over – 5 Wickets Gone for 7 by Over 3
DC were 7/5 after 2.4 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Sahil Parakh (over 0.2, score 0), and then Lokesh Rahul was caught out at 2/1.1 inside the first over. The collapse compounded – Sameer Rizvi gone at 2/1.2, Stubbs at 7/2.1, Axar Patel at 7/2.4. In less than three overs DC had lost their openers, number three, number four and their captain. No side in T20 cricket recovers from 7/5 in 2.4 overs. That opening burst by Bhuvneshwar was the turning point – not a moment within the match, but the match itself.
Match Context
This was the 39th match of 74 in the IPL 2026 Regular Season.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 2nd place, 10 pts from 7 (W5 L2, NRR +1.101). RCB are in excellent shape – five wins from seven, 10 points, and an outstanding run rate. They are looking like genuine title contenders. This win at Delhi, the most one-sided of the season so far, signals a team peaking at the right time.
Delhi Capitals – 7th place, 6 pts from 7 (W3 L4, NRR -0.184). DC are in real danger. Three wins from seven leaves them scratching for form, and a net run rate heading south. They have a game in hand over several sides above them, but the performances are not trending in the right direction. An all-out total of 75 at home – against a team they beat nine days ago – raises serious questions. A top-four finish is still mathematically possible, but only if something changes fast.
