Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians – IPL 2026 Match Report
Tilak Varma had one of those evenings. The Mumbai Indians left-hander walked out to bat at number five, inherited a platform built by Naman Dhir, and then destroyed a Gujarat Titans bowling attack that had little answer for him. His 101 not out off 45 balls set up a 199/5 total and MI sealed the win by 99 runs as GT collapsed to 100 all out at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday.
Innings 1: Mumbai Indians – 199/5 (20 ov)
MI lost Quinton de Kock and Danish Malewar inside the first four overs – Kagiso Rabada removing both to reduce the visitors to 25/2. Suryakumar Yadav came and went quickly for 15 off 10 (Rabada again), leaving MI at 44/3 in the powerplay. Naman Dhir was the man who steadied things. The right-hander fought hard for 45 off 32 balls (SR 140.63), putting on a crucial partnership with Tilak Varma before being caught off Prasidh Krishna in the 13th over with the score at 96/4.
From that point it was Tilak’s show entirely. He smashed 8 fours and 7 sixes in an unbeaten 101 off 45 balls at a strike rate of 224.44 – a breathtaking knock that accelerated precisely when GT needed containment. Hardik Pandya added 15 off 16 before being caught in the 19th over, but by then MI were well beyond a winning total. Prasidh Krishna’s four overs went for 54 runs at an economy of 13.5, while Rashid Khan (0/31 off 4) and Rabada (3/33) were the pick of a poor GT bowling effort.
Innings 2: Gujarat Titans – 100/10 (15.5 ov)
GT’s run chase was over almost before it began. Sai Sudharsan went first ball, caught off Jasprit Bumrah for a golden duck. Jos Buttler followed two balls later, lbw to Hardik Pandya for 5. When Shubman Gill was removed in the fifth over for 14, GT were 40/3 and the asking rate was already out of reach.
Washington Sundar provided the only real resistance with 26 off 17 before being caught in the eighth over. Glenn Phillips (6 off 8) and Rahul Tewatia (8 off 11) came and went without making a dent. Ashwani Kumar was outstanding, claiming 4/24 off four overs at an economy of 6.00. Mitchell Santner chipped in with 2/16, and AM Ghazanfar added 2/17 to complete a ruthless bowling performance. GT were bowled out for 100 in 15.5 overs.
Statz MVP: Tilak Varma – 81.6/100
Tilak Varma tops the Statz Rating table with 81.6 out of 100. His unbeaten 101 off 45 balls – 8 fours, 7 sixes, strike rate 224.44 – was the defining performance of the match. Coming in at number five and seeing MI to 199, he took the game completely away from Gujarat Titans in the back ten overs.
