LAKR vs Seattle Orcas – MLC 2026 Match Report | Statz
Seattle Orcas won by 20 runs in match 14 of 34 in Major League Cricket 2026, recovering from a dire 32/4 at Oakland Coliseum thanks to a breathtaking innings from Dasun Shanaka. Batting first after winning the toss, the Orcas were in serious trouble before Shanaka blasted an unbeaten 58 off just 23 balls to drag his side to 154/7. Los Angeles Knight Riders never got going in the chase, bowled out for 134/8 as spin strangled the middle overs.
First Innings – Seattle Orcas 154/7 (20 overs)
It started disastrously for the Orcas. Shayan Jahangir was bowled for 5 in the second over, and Matthew Breetzke (2 off 7) and Shimron Hetmyer (1 off 6) followed cheaply to leave the Orcas reeling at 16/3 after 3.3 overs. Sunil Narine (4-1-17-2) and Fabian Allen (4-0-18-2) were outstanding early, applying relentless pressure with combined figures of 8-1-35-4.
Tim Seifert steadied briefly with 10 off 11 but fell at 32/4 in the powerplay. The innings looked destined for sub-120 territory. Enter Ali Sheikh, who counter-attacked superbly with 38 off 29 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes), adding crucial runs through the middle overs. Marcus Stoinis contributed 10 off 19 in an anchor role before departing at 66/5.
Then came the match-defining partnership. Dasun Shanaka walked in with the Orcas 66/5 and proceeded to demolish the LAKR attack. His unbeaten 58 off 23 balls came at a strike rate of 252, laced with 5 fours and 5 sixes. Harmeet Singh played an excellent supporting role with 19 off 16 as the pair added 41 runs from 72/6 to 113/7. Shanaka then smashed 41 from the final 3.4 overs with Cameron Gannon (4* off 5), transforming a potential 120 all-out into a competitive 154/7.
For LAKR, Ali Khan went for 50 from his 4 overs without a wicket. Shadley van Schalkwyk picked up 2/40, while Jason Holder returned tidy figures of 1/26 from his 4.
Second Innings – Los Angeles Knight Riders 134/8 (20 overs)
Andre Fletcher gave LAKR a flying start, racing to 23 off 13 balls with 5 fours. The Knight Riders were cruising at 42/1 after 4.6 overs when Fletcher fell. Unmukt Chand came and went for a golden duck one ball later – caught without scoring, making it 43/2 in 5.4 overs.
Colin Munro anchored the innings with 33 off 36 balls, but could never wrestle back momentum. Saif Badar was bowled for 6 at 53/3 (6.6 overs), and the required rate kept climbing. Rovman Powell managed 17 off 21 but couldn’t find the boundary often enough.
The killer blows came in the 14th over. Sunil Narine was bowled for 5 off 10 balls at 92/5 (13.6 overs), and Powell followed immediately at 92/6 (14.2 overs). With 63 needed from 35 balls and only the lower order remaining, the game was effectively done.
Jason Holder fought valiantly with 21 off 20 (1 four, 2 sixes) and Matthew Tromp swung hard for 19 off 12, but it was too little, too late. Marcus Stoinis was the pick of the Orcas bowlers with 3/28 from 4 overs, while Harmeet Singh backed up his batting with 2/20 from 4 at an economy of 5. Jasdeep Singh was economical with 1/24 from 4 overs (one maiden), and Ali Sheikh chipped in with a miserly 1/7 from 2 overs.
