Islamabad United vs Hyderabad Kingsmen – PSL 2026 Match Report | Statz
Hyderabad Kingsmen won by 2 runs in the 43rd match of 44 in the Pakistan Super League 2026 regular season – one of the most nerve-shredding finishes of the entire campaign. Chasing 187 at Gaddafi Stadium, Islamabad United came within a whisker of overhauling it, only for Hyderabad Kingsmen to hold their nerve with two runs to spare. For the Kingsmen, the win is critical – it keeps them in the top four with one match left. For United, a loss they will feel for a while.
First Innings – Kingsmen Post 186
Islamabad United won the toss and chose to bowl, looking to restrict a Kingsmen side they had demolished by 8 wickets just a week earlier. It did not work out. Maaz Sadaqat fell for a duck in the opening over at 1/1 (over 0.4), but Saim Ayub and Marnus Labuschagne built the innings back up. Ayub cracked 38 off 27 before departing at 71/2 (over 9.2) – a quickfire innings that set the tone. Labuschagne added 39 off 32, falling at 84/3 (over 11.2) as the partnership with Ayub had already done the damage.
Usman Khan then took over with a stunning unbeaten 61 off 30 balls at a strike rate of 203. Backed up by Kusal Perera‘s blistering 37 off 21 – dismissed right on the final ball at 186/5 (over 19.6) – the Kingsmen muscled their way to 186/5. Imad Wasim was the pick of the United bowlers with 2/16 off 2 overs. Chris Green (1/19) and Richard Gleeson (1/40) also contributed, but the target felt daunting.
Second Innings – United Fall Just Short
United’s chase started shakily. Sameer Minhas went at 8/1 (over 1.2) and Mohsin Riaz followed at 15/2 (over 2.2). But Devon Conway steadied things with 30 off 25, posting a platform before his LBW at 57/3 (over 7.6). Shadab Khan then chipped in with 22 off 24 before he was caught at 68/4 (over 10.1).
Mark Chapman ignited the chase proper – 43 off 26 at a strike rate of 165, dismissed at 153/5 (over 17.3). Haider Ali smashed 31 off 16 at a strike rate of 194, but he fell at 132/6 – note he was actually dismissed before Chapman in the batting order sequence, caught at 132 (over 15.4). Faheem Ashraf then gave United a real shot – 19 off 11 at 173 SR, dismissed at 182/7 (over 19.4). Chris Green (21* off 9) and Imad Wasim (1* off 1) could not get the final 5 off the last ball. Hunain Shah bowled 2/37 off 4 overs, Mohammad Ali took 2/44, and Saim Ayub picked up 1/31 from his 4 overs.
Statz MVP – Usman Khan (97.53)
Usman Khan earns Statz MVP honours with an MI rating of 97.53 out of 100. His unbeaten 61 off 30 – 10 fours, strike rate of 203 – was the defining contribution of the match. Statz calculates impact based on match context, and in a game decided by 2 runs, an innings of this calibre in the closing overs is as impactful as it gets. The official man of the match went to Hunain Shah for his bowling – Statz sees it differently, putting the top-order destroyer above the death bowler on calculated match impact.

Turning Point
The dismissal of Mark Chapman in over 17.3 with United at 153/5 was the moment the game shifted. Chapman had been leading the chase with authority – his exit left United needing 34 off 15 balls with the tail starting to loom. From that point the margin compressed but never flipped.
