Multan Sultans beat Quetta Gladiators by 6 wickets – PSL 2026 Match Report
Multan Sultans beat Quetta Gladiators by 6 wickets (with 15 balls remaining) at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on 5 April 2026 in the Pakistan Super League 2026 – 13th Match. Chasing 167, Multan reached their target in 17.3 overs to secure a comfortable win.
The Story
Quetta Gladiators batted first after Multan won the toss and elected to field. The innings got off to a chaotic start – Ahmed Daniyal retired hurt without facing a ball, and from 15/2 in the second over Quetta were already rebuilding. Captain Saud Shakeel steadied the ship with a composed 56 off 41 (6 fours, 1 six) while Hasan Nawaz contributed 20 off 22 before being stumped off Arafat Minhas. Rilee Rossouw lasted only three balls for 1, but Bevon Jacobs kept the scoreboard ticking with an unbeaten 49 off 31 (4 fours, 3 sixes) at the death. Tom Curran fell for 1 in the 17th over and Mohammad Nawaz mopped up Saud Shakeel shortly after to close at 166/7. Alzarri Joseph was run out off the final ball. Nawaz was the pick of the bowlers with 3/30 from four overs, while Arafat Minhas took 2/14 at a remarkable 3.5 economy.
Multan’s chase was launched explosively by Sahibzada Farhan, who smashed 32 off just 14 balls (4 fours, 2 sixes) before Alzarri Joseph claimed his scalp in the fifth over. Steven Smith then played a measured innings of 53 off 35 (7 fours, 1 six), building a crucial partnership with Josh Philippe. Philippe fell for 18 in the eighth over, and after Smith was dismissed by Hasan Nawaz for 53 in the 14th, Multan needed 31 from 39 balls. Arafat Minhas made it briefly nervy with 6 off 8 before being lbw to Hasan Nawaz. But Shan Masood sealed the win with a superb unbeaten 46 off 30 (2 fours, 2 sixes), crossing the line alongside Ashton Turner (4*) with 15 balls remaining.
Statz MVP: Arafat Minhas – Rating 91.8
Arafat Minhas produced the performance of the match – and it is reflected in his outstanding rating of 91.8. His bowling figures of 2/14 from four overs at 3.5 runs per over were extraordinary in a match where 333 runs were scored across 37.3 overs. Minhas did not just take wickets – he shut down one end completely, denying Quetta any momentum and keeping the asking rate in Multan’s favour throughout the Gladiators innings. Statz rewards both wicket-taking and economy in context, and Minhas excelled on both counts. An exceptional all-round effort in the field that was the foundation of Multan’s win.

Turning Point
The pivotal moment came in the 13th over of Multan’s chase. With Steven Smith and Shan Masood building a third-wicket partnership, Hasan Nawaz struck to remove Smith for 53 (136/3). At that point Multan needed 31 from 42 balls with seven wickets in hand – still very much in control. However, when Arafat Minhas fell to Hasan Nawaz again for 6 in the 16th over (148/4), the match had a brief moment of tension. 19 needed from 24 balls with six wickets remaining was still Multan’s to lose, and Masood and Turner made absolutely sure there was no further drama. The real turning point defensively was the first over of the second innings – Alzarri Joseph conceding five wides and leaking 29 off his 2.3 overs handed Multan too easy a start to the chase.
Match Context
The 13th match of Pakistan Super League 2026 saw Multan Sultans continue their impressive run. This victory over the Quetta Gladiators – who had a freak start with Ahmed Daniyal retiring hurt without facing a ball – demonstrated Multan’s depth across all three departments. The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore has been a busy venue during this PSL, and it is producing some competitive cricket. Quetta will need to regroup as the tournament enters its middle stages.
