Durham beat Leicestershire by 8 wickets (with 30 balls remaining) – T20 Blast Match Report
Durham won by 8 wickets (with 30 balls remaining) in the 88th match of 115 in the T20 Blast 2026 at Grace Road, Leicester. Alex Lees produced a masterclass with the bat – 80 off 44 balls at a strike rate of 182 – to steer Durham to a commanding chase and keep their playoff hopes alive. Leicestershire’s 156 all out proved no match for Durham’s clinical batting display.
Leicestershire Post 156 All Out
Leicestershire won the toss and elected to bat, but their innings never gained momentum. Stevie Eskinazi fell for a duck in the opening over, caught at 0/1 off just three balls. Rehan Ahmed (9 off 11) followed at 17/2 in the 3rd over, leaving Leicestershire in early trouble.
Ben Green (19 off 14, 3 fours) was bowled at 48/3 in the 5th over, but Rishi Patel and Ashton Turner steadied the ship with a 33-run stand. Patel struck 29 off 17 (5 fours) before falling at 81/4, while Turner provided a brief counter-attack with 33 off 16 (4 fours, 1 six) at a strike rate of 206 before being caught at 100/5 in the 11th over.
Ben Cox (19 off 18, 1 four) was trapped LBW at 119/6, and Leicestershire’s middle order crumbled. Ruan de Swardt and Liam Trevaskis both fell for ducks, leaving the tail to salvage what they could. Josh Davey (37 off 24, 4 fours, 1 six) and Josh Hull (10 off 12) added 56 runs in an unbroken ninth-wicket stand, but it proved insufficient.
Brydon Carse was economical for Durham with 1/17 from 4 overs, while Callum Parkinson took 2/23 from 4 and Matty Potts claimed 2/41 from 4. Nathan Sowter and Colin Ackermann each took 2 wickets as Durham’s attack proved too disciplined.
Durham Chase Down Target in 15 Overs
Durham’s chase was a masterclass in controlled aggression. Graham Clark set the tone with 38 off 23 (3 fours, 2 sixes) at a strike rate of 165, putting Leicestershire under immediate pressure. He fell at 114/1 in the 9th over, but by then the momentum was firmly with Durham.
Alex Lees took over from there, unleashing a devastating assault on the Leicestershire bowling. He struck 80 off 44 balls (9 fours, 4 sixes) at a strike rate of 182, dominating a 51-run stand with Clark and then accelerating further with the lower order. Lees was eventually bowled at 125/2 in the 11th over, but Durham’s chase was already won.
Ben McKinney (16 off 10, 1 four, 1 six) and Colin Ackermann (20 off 13, 2 fours, 1 six) finished the job with an unbroken 35-run third-wicket stand, sealing victory with 30 balls to spare. Josh Davey was the pick of Leicestershire’s bowlers with 1/21 from 2 overs, while Rehan Ahmed took 1/37 from 4.
