Northamptonshire beat Glamorgan by 53 runs – T20 Blast Match Report
Northamptonshire won by 53 runs in the 87th match of 115 in the T20 Blast 2026 at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Chris Lynn produced a devastating century-plus display – 117 off just 56 balls with 10 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 209 – to power Northamptonshire to 217/7 and secure a commanding victory that keeps them top of the table. Glamorgan’s chase fell well short at 164 all out in 18.3 overs, leaving them in 8th place with work to do.
Northamptonshire’s Explosive Batting Display
Northamptonshire won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that proved inspired. Chris Lynn came out swinging from ball one, striking at 209 throughout his 56-ball assault. He anchored the innings with a 139-run stand with Ricardo Vasconcelos (25 off 17, 2 fours, 2 sixes) before the latter fell at 58/2 in the 5th over. Nathan McSweeney added quick runs with 12 off 8 (2 fours) at 84/3, but the real acceleration came through the middle overs.
Saif Zaib struck 25 off 14 balls (3 fours, 1 six) in a blistering cameo, taking Northamptonshire from 115/4 to 171/5 in just 4.6 overs. Lewis McManus continued the onslaught with 16 off 7 (2 sixes) at a strike rate of 229, propelling the total past 200. Lynn’s dismissal at 197/7 in the 17th over came via catch, but the damage was done – Northamptonshire had posted a commanding 217/7.
Ben Kellaway was Glamorgan’s standout bowler with 3/22 from 4 overs, while Nathan McAndrew took 2/54 from 4. Daniel Douthwaite claimed 1/39 from 4 overs as Glamorgan’s attack struggled to contain the explosive batting.
Glamorgan’s Chase Crumbles
Glamorgan’s reply never gained momentum. Kiran Carlson made a bright start with 42 off 20 balls (6 fours, 1 six) at a strike rate of 210, but fell at 65/1 in the 6th over. Will Smale was run out for 15 at 36/2 in just the 2nd over, leaving Glamorgan in early trouble.
Ben Kellaway fought back with 24 off 20 (1 four, 1 six) in a defiant knock, but wickets fell regularly around him. Asa Tribe managed just 2 at 79/4, Sean Dickson added 7 at 97/5, and Chris Cooke contributed 14 off 13 (1 six) at 108/6. Nathan McAndrew provided late resistance with 36 off 17 (1 four, 4 sixes) at a strike rate of 212, but it proved too little too late. Glamorgan were bowled out for 164 in 18.3 overs.
Calvin Harrison was exceptional with the ball for Northamptonshire, taking 3/20 from 4 overs at an economy of 5. Saif Zaib claimed 2/27 from 4 overs, while David Willey took 1/31 from 3. The 53-run margin reflected Northamptonshire’s complete dominance across both disciplines.
