Warwickshire vs Sussex – T20 Blast 2026 Report | Statz
Warwickshire won by 76 runs in the 71st match of 115 in the T20 Blast 2026 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. A commanding batting display built around Sam Hain‘s unbeaten 68 and Robert Yates‘s explosive 54 powered the hosts to 198/3, before Richard Gleeson‘s 4/19 demolished Sussex for 122 in just 16.3 overs. Warwickshire move to 13th (3W 5L, 12pts) while Sussex remain rooted at 17th (2W 6L, 8pts).
First Innings – Warwickshire Post 198/3
Warwickshire won the toss and elected to bat, with Robert Yates setting the tone with a blazing 54 off 27 balls (6 fours, 3 sixes, SR 200). He and Zen Malik (7 off 7) put on 54 for the first wicket before Malik was stumped in the 5th over. Yates followed at 68/2 (ball 7.2), stumped for the second time in the innings, but by then the platform was laid.
Beau Webster (60 off 42, 5 fours, 2 sixes) and Sam Hain (68 not out off 38, 3 fours, 4 sixes, SR 179) took control with a 95-run third-wicket partnership that broke Sussex’s spirit. Webster fell LBW at 163/3 in the 17th over, but Hain accelerated through the death overs with Dan Mousley (5 not out off 6) to push the total to 198/3. Danny Briggs (2/36 from 4) was the only Sussex bowler to take multiple wickets, while Tymal Mills (0/54 from 4) was punished.
Second Innings – Sussex Collapse to 122 All Out
Harrison Ward (23 off 15, 3 fours, 1 six) and George Thomas (15 off 7, 2 fours, 1 six) offered brief resistance, but Sussex never got going as a unit. Daniel Hughes top-scored with 38 off 31 (4 fours) but was bowled at 98/4 in the 11th over, and from there the innings disintegrated.
Sussex collapsed from 98/4 to 122 all out, losing their last 6 wickets for just 24 runs. The damage was concentrated in a devastating spell from the Warwickshire seamers – three wickets fell in three balls around the 119 mark (Danny Briggs LBW at 118, Jack Carson bowled at 119, and Sean Hunt bowled at 119). Richard Gleeson was the standout with 4/19 from 3 overs at economy 6.33, while Usman Tariq (2/26 from 4) and Jordan Thompson (2/16 from 2.3 overs) shared the remaining wickets.

Turning Point
The match effectively turned with Daniel Hughes‘s dismissal at 98/4 in the 11th over (ball 10.4). Hughes had been holding the chase together with 38 off 31, and his departure triggered a catastrophic collapse. Sussex lost 6 wickets for 24 runs from that point, including three wickets in three balls around the 119 mark that ended any faint hopes of an improbable recovery.
