How Statz Rating works:
- Each player receives a contextual match impact score based on their all-round contribution — batting, bowling, and situational factors.
- Ratings are scaled against the season benchmark so they are directly comparable across fixtures and to the season leaderboard.
- A typical top performer scores around 100. Exceptional performances can exceed 100.
Warwickshire vs Worcestershire – Blast 2026 Report | Statz
Warwickshire Demolish Worcestershire by 59 Runs as Malik Blasts 99
Warwickshire won by 59 runs in a dominant T20 Blast display at Edgbaston on Friday evening. Match 62 of the 2026 season belonged to Warwickshire from the moment Zen Malik unleashed one of the great T20 Blast innings – a breathtaking 99 off 46 balls – as Worcestershire were never in the hunt.
Warwickshire won the toss and elected to bat, posting a formidable 224 all out from their 20 overs before restricting Worcestershire to 165-7 in reply.
Warwickshire Innings: Malik and Webster Put On a Masterclass
It almost started terribly for Warwickshire. Robert Yates was caught for a duck off just the fourth ball of the innings, leaving the hosts 1-1. But Malik walked in and turned the match into a one-man show.
His 99 off 46 balls was devastating – 11 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 215. He found a superb partner in Beau Webster, and the pair put together a stunning second-wicket partnership of 177 from just 86 balls. It was total domination of the Worcestershire attack.
Webster was magnificent in his own right, smashing 79 off 44 with 10 fours and 3 sixes (SR 180). He was eventually run out at 184-3, and Malik was caught for 99 at 178-2 – agonisingly one short of a century. Dan Mousley was bowled for 2 at 184-4 and Ed Barnard (7 off 5) and Sam Hain (2 off 3) fell in quick succession as Warwickshire dipped to 193-6.
But Jordan Thompson launched a ferocious late assault, blasting 15 off just 5 balls with 2 sixes at a strike rate of 300. Kai Smith (15 off 10, 3 fours) contributed alongside him, and Warwickshire piled on 31 runs from the last 13 balls to finish on 224 all out – three run-outs in the final over showing the aggressive intent.
For Worcestershire, Tom Taylor took 2-28 from 3 overs and Matthew Waite grabbed 2-50 from 4 overs. Usama Mir (1-36 from 4) and Sikandar Raza (1-36 from 4) offered some resistance, but Ben Allison (0-42 from 3, economy 14.00) and Fateh Singh (0-31 from 2, economy 15.50) were taken apart.
Worcestershire Reply: Hose Fights Alone in Forlorn Chase
Facing 225 to win, Worcestershire needed a flying start. Kashif Ali provided early fireworks with 22 off 11 (1 four, 2 sixes), but Isaac Mohammed was bowled for 7 at 28-1 in the third over, and when Kashif Ali was caught at 40-2, the required rate was already climbing steeply.
Gareth Roderick (17 off 16, 3 fours) was LBW at 51-3, and when Raza was bowled for 12 at 68-4 in the 10th over, the chase was effectively over. Brett D’Oliveira managed just 3 off 7 before falling at 90-5.
Adam Hose fought valiantly with 49 off 35 (3 fours, 3 sixes), keeping Worcestershire competitive in a lost cause. Waite was impressive in defeat, finishing unbeaten on 39 off 25 (1 four, 3 sixes) alongside Taylor (11 off 4, 1 four, 1 six), but the target was always out of reach. Worcestershire finished on 165-7.
Thompson was superb with the ball – 1-21 from 4 overs at an economy of just 5.25. Usman Tariq contributed 1-24 from 4 overs (economy 6.00), while Richard Gleeson took 2-42 from 4 overs. Webster added 1-18 from 2 overs, Mousley chipped in with 1-20, and Chris Woakes took 1-39 from 4 overs.
Statz MVP: Zen Malik (115.96)
Zen Malik claims the Statz MVP award with a match impact rating of 115.96 out of 100. His 99 off 46 was the centrepiece of the match – arriving at 1-1 and constructing a 177-run partnership with Webster that put the game beyond Worcestershire before the halfway mark. The Statz algorithm calculates impact based on match context, and Malik’s ability to dominate from the first ball after Yates’ early dismissal was exceptional. No official Man of the Match was named.
Top 5 Statz Ratings
- Zen Malik (WAR) – 115.96: Sensational 99 off 46 balls (11 fours, 5 sixes, SR 215) built the entire innings.
- Beau Webster (WAR) – 100.29: Superb 79 off 44 (10 fours, 3 sixes) plus 1-18 with the ball in a complete all-round display.
- Jordan Thompson (WAR) – 97.72: Late 15 off 5 balls (2 sixes) with the bat and miserly 1-21 from 4 overs bowling (economy 5.25).
- Matthew Waite (WOR) – 96.20: Fighting unbeaten 39 off 25 with the bat and 2-50 with the ball in a losing cause.
- Tom Taylor (WOR) – 78.91: Strong all-round effort with 2-28 bowling and a quick 11 off 4 with the bat late on.
Turning Point
Sikandar Raza’s dismissal – bowled for 12 at 68-4 (9.3 overs) – ended any realistic hope of a Worcestershire comeback. With the experienced Zimbabwean international gone, the required rate climbed above 12 an over and the remaining batters lacked the firepower to threaten. What had been a difficult but not impossible chase became a damage-limitation exercise.
Match Context
This was match 62 of 115 in the T20 Blast 2026 season. Warwickshire desperately needed this result and it lifts them from the bottom half, though they remain 15th (W2 L5, 8 points) with significant ground to make up. Worcestershire drop to 12th (W3 L4, 12 points) after their fourth defeat.
