Somerset vs Glamorgan – T20 Blast 2026 Match Report | Statz
Glamorgan won by 4 wickets (with 0 ball remaining) as they chased down 203 in a nerve-shredding finish at The Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton. This was the 37th match of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026, and it was a result that keeps Glamorgan’s tournament alive after back-to-back defeats. For Somerset, who sit 9th with 2 wins from 3 (8 pts, NRR -0.111), a home defeat is a setback in a congested mid-table. Glamorgan climb to 12th with their first win in three matches (W1 L2, 4 pts), though their net run rate of +0.943 gives them a cushion that belies their position.
First Innings – Somerset Post 202/6
Tom Banton got Somerset off to a flying start, smashing 39 off 24 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes before being caught at 52 in the 5th over. Joshua Thomas (18 off 14) fell shortly after at 60/5.6, and when Jordan Hermann was run out for 12 at 76/8.3 and Thomas Rew was bowled for just 2, Somerset were wobbling at 83/4 inside 10 overs.
Enter Lewis Gregory. The Somerset captain smashed 54 off 28 balls at a strike rate of 193, hammering 2 fours and 4 sixes alongside Tom Abell (41 off 28, 4 fours, 1 six). Their partnership rebuilt from 83/4 to 173 before Abell was caught off the first ball of the 18th over. Gregory followed at 184/18.1, run out in the chaos of the death overs, but Daniel Sams (24* off 12, 5 fours at a strike rate of 200) ensured the late acceleration pushed Somerset past 200.
Daniel Douthwaite was the pick of the Glamorgan bowlers with 2/35 from his 4 overs at an economy of 8.75. Ben Kellaway was tidy too, taking 1/12 from his 2 overs at 6.00. Mason Crane went at just 6 an over for his wicketless spell of 4-0-24-0. Ned Leonard had a night to forget – 1/50 from 3 overs with 4 no-balls, going at 16.67.
Second Innings – Glamorgan Chase Down 203 Off the Final Delivery
Kiran Carlson set the tone immediately. The Glamorgan opener blitzed 29 off just 11 balls – 3 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 264 – before being caught at 42/3.2. It was explosive but brief, and when Ben Kellaway (3 off 4) was caught at 55/4.6 and Will Smale (22 off 18) fell lbw at 55/5.3, Glamorgan were in trouble at 55/3 in the 6th over.
Sean Dickson took control. The right-hander anchored the middle overs with a superb 63 off 36 balls, cracking 6 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 175. His partnership with Asa Tribe (48 off 31, 5 fours, 1 six) added 89 runs from 55/3 to 144, swinging the momentum firmly Glamorgan’s way. Dickson was caught at 144/14.6, and Tribe followed at 171/17.4, leaving 32 needed from 15 balls.
Daniel Douthwaite kept swinging, smashing 17 off 9 at a strike rate of 189 before being caught at 194/19.3. That left 9 needed from 4 balls. James Neesham (14* off 10) and Nathan McAndrew (3* off 1) scrambled the winning runs off the very last delivery to seal a remarkable chase.
Somerset’s bowlers shared the wickets around. Daniel Sams took 2/49 from 4 overs and Jake Ball claimed 2/47, but both went at over 11 an over. Craig Overton (1/26 from 3 overs, economy 8.67) was the most economical of the seamers, while Josh Shaw took 1/38 from his 4 overs.
Statz MVP – Daniel Sams (98.53)
Daniel Sams takes the Statz MVP award with a match impact rating of 98.53. The Australian all-rounder’s influence was felt in both innings – an unbeaten 24 off 12 balls (strike rate 200) that propelled Somerset past 200, followed by 2 wickets with the ball in the chase. While his bowling figures of 2/49 at 12.25 were expensive, those wickets came at key moments. The Statz MI rating calculates impact based on match context, and Sams’ dual contribution across both disciplines stood out. No official Man of the Match was awarded.
Top 5 Statz Ratings
- Daniel Sams – 98.53 – All-round impact: 24*(12) with the bat and 2/49 with the ball. Contributed in every phase.

- Lewis Gregory – 95.32 – 54 off 28 balls (SR 193) rescued Somerset from 83/4, plus 3-0-21-0 at an economy of 7 in the field. Narrowly beaten to second by Douthwaite.

Turning Point
The dismissal of Thomas Rew, clean bowled for 2 at 83/9.5, could have been a dagger to Somerset’s hopes. At 83/4 inside 10 overs on a good Taunton deck, the innings was drifting. But Lewis Gregory and Tom Abell responded with a 90-run stand that rescued the innings. In the chase, the real turning point came when Sean Dickson was caught at 144 in the 15th over with 59 still needed. From there, Glamorgan had to rely on Asa Tribe, Daniel Douthwaite and the lower order to scramble home – and they did, off the very last ball.
Match Context
This was the 37th match of 112 in the T20 Blast 2026 group stage. Somerset drop to 9th (W2 L1, 8 pts, NRR -0.111) – still in the top half of a tight table, but a home loss to a side below them stings. Glamorgan sit 12th (W1 L2, 4 pts, NRR +0.943) and needed this badly after two straight defeats. Their strong net run rate suggests they haven’t been far off in their losses, and a last-ball win at Taunton could be the spark that ignites a run through the group stage. With 15 group matches for most teams, there is plenty of cricket still to play.
