United Arab Emirates won by 7 wickets (with 14 balls remaining) in the 145th match of 179 in the T20 Internationals at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur. Ibrar Shah delivered a devastating spell with the ball – 4/13 from 4 overs at an economy of 3.25 – to dismantle Malaysia’s batting, before Adeeb Usmani orchestrated a clinical chase with an unbeaten 75 off 45 balls. The UAE’s clinical performance underlined their superiority in the format, with Malaysia left to rue a below-par total at home.
Malaysia’s Struggle – 156 All Out
Malaysia won the toss and elected to bat, but their innings never gained momentum against a disciplined UAE attack. Nazmus Sakib provided early impetus with 37 off 24 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes) at a strike rate of 154, but fell stumped at 95/2 in the 10th over. Syed Aziz anchored the innings with 65 off 49 (8 fours, 2 sixes) at a strike rate of 133, but lacked sufficient support around him.
Virandeep Singh managed only 8 off 7 before falling at 111/4 in the 12th over, while Sharvin Muniandy was caught for a duck at the same score. Muhammad Amir Azim (14 off 11) and Muhammad Akram Abd Malek (15 off 9, 2 sixes) offered brief resistance, but Malaysia’s lower order crumbled. Ibrar Shah was the architect of Malaysia’s downfall, taking 4/13 from 4 overs – a spell of extraordinary control that suffocated the home side. Khuzaima Tanveer chipped in with 2 wickets, while Adeeb Usmani took 1/23 from 4 overs with the ball.
UAE’s Commanding Chase – 157 for 3
Tanish Suri opened with aggression, striking 26 off 16 (4 fours, 1 six) at a strike rate of 163 before falling caught at 40/1 in the 4th over. But Adeeb Usmani took centre stage, crafting a masterclass in T20 batting. His unbeaten 75 off 45 (4 fours, 6 sixes) at a strike rate of 167 was the centrepiece of the chase, combining aggression with intelligent placement.
Alishan Sharafu (18 off 18) provided brief support before being bowled at 68/2 in the 8th over, and Harpreet Singh Bhatia (32 off 23, 3 fours, 1 six) accelerated in the middle overs to take the chase beyond Malaysia’s reach. Usmani’s dominance meant UAE needed only 17.4 overs to complete the formality, finishing with 14 balls to spare. Virandeep Singh was Malaysia’s best bowler with 2/33 from 4 overs, while Syed Aziz and Pavandeep Singh were ineffective.
