Nottinghamshire Innings – Haynes Steadies the Ship
Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to bat, but the start was chaotic. Joe Clarke was caught for a duck off the first ball, and George Munsey followed at 19 for 2 in the 3rd over. The innings threatened to derail early, but Jack Haynes took control from the middle order, striking 7 fours and 1 six at a strike rate of 136 to anchor the innings.
Joe Pocklington provided crucial support with 26 off 23 (1 six), building a 68-run stand with Haynes before falling at 87 for 3 in the 12th over. Tom Moores struck 20 off 13 with 1 four and 1 six, but the innings lost momentum when George Linde was bowled for a duck at 122 for 5.
The late order rallied briefly – Benny Howell smashed 19 off just 9 balls (1 four, 2 sixes) at a strike rate of 211 to push Nottinghamshire past 160. Liam Patterson-White added 7 off 2 with 1 six in the final over.
Chris Jordan was the standout bowler for Surrey, taking 3 for 22 from 4 overs at an economy of 5.5. Reece Topley took 1 for 39 from 4, while Tom Curran and Daniel Lawrence each claimed 1 wicket.
Surrey Chase – Roy’s Blitz Falls Short
Jason Roy launched a fierce counter-attack, smashing 76 off 50 balls (10 fours, 1 six) at a strike rate of 152 to keep Surrey in the hunt. Roy and Laurie Evans (40 off 34, 4 fours) put on a 101-run opening stand before Roy was run out at 123 for 1 in the 15th over.
The loss of Roy proved decisive. Daniel Lawrence fell for 3 at 113 for 2, and Josh Philippe could not accelerate quickly enough despite 19 off 14. Ollie Pope managed 9 off 7, but the middle order crumbled. Tom Curran fell for 5 at 151 for 5, Chris Jordan for 1 at 153 for 6, and Surrey finished on 156 for 7 – 7 runs short.
George Linde was the pick of Nottinghamshire’s bowlers with 2 for 23 from 4 overs. Binura Fernando and Olly Stone each took 2 wickets, while Liam Patterson-White was expensive at 0 for 36 from 3 overs.
