Northamptonshire beat Gloucestershire by 8 wickets (with 14 balls remaining) – T20 Blast Match Report
Northamptonshire won by 8 wickets (with 14 balls remaining) in the 112th match of 115 in the T20 Blast 2026 at County Ground, Northampton. Ben Sanderson delivered a masterclass with the ball – 4/20 from 4 overs – to dismantle Gloucestershire’s batting and hand the hosts a commanding chase. The win extends Northamptonshire’s dominance at the top of the table, improving to 10 wins from 13 matches (40pts), while Gloucestershire remain eighth (7W 6L, 28pts) with playoff qualification now in the balance.
Gloucestershire Collapse to 152 All Out
Gloucestershire won the toss and elected to bat, but their innings never gained momentum. D’Arcy Short was clean bowled by Sanderson for 17 off 11 balls at 20/1 in the 3rd over, setting a tone of early fragility. Dawid Malan followed immediately for a duck at 2/2, caught in the first over.
Ben Charlesworth provided the only real resistance, striking 68 off 38 balls (8 fours, 3 sixes) at a strike rate of 179 to haul Gloucestershire to 126/4 by the 16th over. But Sanderson’s relentless accuracy proved too much – he removed Charlesworth caught at 126/4 in the 16th over, and the innings crumbled thereafter. Jack Taylor made 22 off 24, and James Bracey finished unbeaten on 17 off 15, but Gloucestershire could only limp to 152 all out.
Sanderson’s 4/20 was the standout bowling performance, supported by Calvin Harrison with 2/23 from 4 overs and James Sales with 1/27. David Willey conceded 47 from 4 overs but took 1/47, while George Scrimshaw claimed 1/20 from 2.
Northamptonshire Cruise to Victory
Chasing 153, Northamptonshire’s openers took control immediately. Ricardo Vasconcelos struck 42 off 30 balls (6 fours) to set the platform, before Chris Lynn contributed 18 off 20 in a 78-run opening stand. When Vasconcelos fell caught at 78/1 in the 9th over, Nathan McSweeney accelerated with 28 off 20 (3 fours) to push the hosts within touching distance.
David Willey sealed the win with an unbeaten 47 off 33 balls (1 four, 1 six), finishing the chase with 14 balls to spare. Lewis McManus blasted 12 off just 4 balls (1 four, 1 six) in the closing stages as Northamptonshire reached 153/2 in 17.4 overs. Gloucestershire’s bowling lacked penetration – Marchant de Lange took 1/43 from 4 overs, while Duan Jansen went for 36 from 3.4 overs.

Sanderson’s spell broke the back of the chase before it began, and his control under pressure was textbook. No official Man of the Match was awarded.
