Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by 34 runs – T20 Internationals Match Report
Bangladesh won by 34 runs in the 133rd match of 143 in T20 Internationals at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo. A commanding batting display powered by Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan, combined with a devastating bowling spell from Rishad Hossain, proved too much for Zimbabwe to overcome. The win moves Bangladesh to 8th in the ICC T20I rankings (rating 224, 11,202 points from 50 matches), while Zimbabwe remain 12th (rating 202, 9,679 points from 48 matches).
Bangladesh Batting – Saifuddin’s Explosive Finish
Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bowl first, but Bangladesh made them pay with a commanding 186 for 5 from their 20 overs. Saif Hassan set the tone with a composed 55 off 45 balls (8 fours, 1 six) at a strike rate of 122, building the platform for what would become a match-winning total. Tanzid Hasan complemented him perfectly with 58 off 44 (6 fours, 2 sixes, strike rate 132), the pair putting on a 120-run opening stand before both fell to clean bowled dismissals in quick succession at 120 and 122.
The middle order wobbled briefly – Towhid Hridoy managed just 6 off 5 and Parvez Hossain Emon fell for 1 – but Bangladesh’s lower order delivered the knockout punch. Yasir Ali smashed 22 off 12 (3 fours, 1 six, strike rate 183) and Mohammad Saifuddin produced a brutal cameo of 31 off just 10 balls (4 sixes, strike rate 310) to propel Bangladesh past 180.
Richard Ngarava was Zimbabwe’s standout bowler with 2/23 from 4 overs, while Sikandar Raza took 1/20 from 4. Brad Evans proved expensive, conceding 65 from 4 overs while taking 2 wickets, and Blessing Muzarabani went for 35 from 4 without a breakthrough.
Zimbabwe’s Chase Falls Short
Zimbabwe’s chase never gained traction. Brian Bennett struck early with 11 off 5 (1 four, 1 six) but was clean bowled at 19/1 in the 1.6th over. Tadiwanashe Marumani fell for 4 at 15/2 and Dion Myers departed for 4 at 21/3 as Bangladesh’s bowlers tightened the screws.
Milton Shumba provided some resistance with 19 off 20 (3 fours) before being clean bowled at 68/4. Sikandar Raza struck 28 off 12 (3 fours, 1 six, strike rate 233) to briefly threaten a comeback, but fell caught at 65/5 in the 6.5th over. Ryan Burl kept Zimbabwe alive with 29 off 19 (1 four, 1 six) and Brad Evans added 25 off 14 (2 fours, 2 sixes), but the required run rate spiralled beyond reach. Zimbabwe were all out for 152 in 19.4 overs, falling 34 runs short.
Rishad Hossain was the star with the ball, claiming 4/26 from 3.4 overs at an economy of 7.09. Mahedi Hasan took 3/24 from 4 overs, while Mohammad Saifuddin added 1/36 from 4. Nahid Rana chipped in with 1/15 from 2.3 overs.
