India’s Batting Blitz – 219 for 5
Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bowl, but India’s top order came out swinging from the first ball. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi struck an immediate 20 off just 9 balls (3 fours, 1 six) at a strike rate of 222, setting a ferocious tempo before falling caught at 29 for 1 in the 2.6th over. Abhishek Sharma departed for 8 at 10 for 2 in the 1.5th over, but the damage was already done.
Ishan Kishan took centre stage with a masterclass in aggressive batting, smashing 81 off 44 balls (9 fours, 2 sixes) at a strike rate of 184 to anchor India’s innings. His 155-run partnership with Tilak Varma proved the match-winning stand, with Kishan’s dismissal caught at 189 for 3 in the 17.1th over leaving India well-placed. Shreyas Iyer contributed 25 off 20 (4 fours) at 95 for 4 in the 9.6th over, but the real fireworks came from Varma, who finished unbeaten on 60 off 29 balls (5 fours, 3 sixes) at a strike rate of 207, taking India past 210 in the final overs.
Rinku Singh added 12 off 8 (1 six) in the death overs, while Shivam Dube remained unbeaten on 6 off 3 (1 four).
