Barbados Royals beat Saint Lucia Kings by 9 runs – Caribbean Premier League Match Report
Barbados Tridents won by 9 runs in the 9th match of 39 in the Caribbean Premier League 2026 at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium. Barbados Royals posted 177 for 5, then held their nerve as Saint Lucia Kings fell agonisingly short on 168 for 7. The win keeps Barbados perfect in the tournament – 2 wins from 2 matches – while Saint Lucia slip to 2-2 after electing to bowl first at home.
Barbados Royals Bat First – Rutherford Blitz Carries the Day
Brandon King opened with 39 off 28 balls (5 fours, 1 six) to set the tone, but the real acceleration came through the middle order. Quinton de Kock exploded for 38 off just 15 balls (2 fours, 4 sixes) at a strike rate of 253, taking Barbados from 7/1 in the 1st over to 63 by the 5th. His dismissal at 63/3 in the 5th over (ball 5.5) briefly steadied Saint Lucia’s bowling, but Sherfane Rutherford then took over.
Rutherford’s 61 off 31 balls (3 fours, 5 sixes) at a strike rate of 197 was the match-winning knock. He arrived at 90/1 and drove Barbados forward relentlessly, building a 79-run stand with Rivaldo Clarke (23 off 27) before Clarke fell at 170/4 in the 17th over. Rutherford’s dismissal at 169/5 in the 17th over (ball 17.2) came just as Barbados looked to accelerate further, but Chris Green smashed 7 off 2 balls (1 six) in the final over to push the total to 177.
Roston Chase was Saint Lucia’s standout bowler with 2/30 from 4 overs, while Shadley van Schalkwyk took 2/25 from 3. Matthew Forde claimed 1/37 from 3 overs.
Saint Lucia’s Chase Falls Nine Short
Ackeem Auguste produced a stunning counter-attack with 63 off 34 balls (3 fours, 6 sixes) at a strike rate of 185, but Saint Lucia’s chase never quite found the momentum needed. Johann Jeremiah started positively with 11 off 10 (2 fours) before falling at 41/1 in the 4th over. Auguste then carried the fight, building a 87-run stand with Roston Chase (34 off 21, 4 fours, 2 sixes) to bring Saint Lucia within striking distance at 128/2 in the 13th over.
But the middle order crumbled. Chase was bowled by Gudakesh Motie at 59/3 in the 5th over (ball 5.6), Auguste fell clean bowled at 128/2 in the 13th over (ball 13.5), and Charith Asalanka departed for 8 at 120/5 in the 12th over. Matthew Forde (24 off 17, 3 fours, 1 six) and Amari Goodridge (13 off 5, 2 sixes) pushed hard in the death overs, but the asking rate had climbed too high. Saint Lucia reached 168/7 – nine runs short.
Gudakesh Motie was the architect of Barbados’ victory with 3/22 from 4 overs at an economy of 5.5, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman took 2/27 from 4 and Daniel Sams claimed 1/28 from 3.

Turning Point
The match turned when Roston Chase was bowled by Gudakesh Motie at 59/3 in the 5th over (ball 5.6). Chase had been building momentum alongside Ackeem Auguste, and his dismissal exposed the lower order. Though Auguste continued to attack, the loss of Chase left Saint Lucia without a stabilising force, and Motie’s tight bowling in the middle overs made the target increasingly difficult to chase.
