How Statz Rating works:
- Each player receives a contextual match impact score based on their all-round contribution — batting, bowling, and situational factors.
- Ratings are scaled against the season benchmark so they are directly comparable across fixtures and to the season leaderboard.
- A typical top performer scores around 100. Exceptional performances can exceed 100.
RR vs GT – IPL 2026 Match Report | Statz
Gujarat Titans Cruise to Seven-Wicket Win as Gill Masterclass Renders Suryavanshi 96 Irrelevant
Gujarat Titans won by 7 wickets (with 8 balls remaining) against Rajasthan Royals in match 73 of 74 in the IPL 2026 league stage at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh.
Shubman Gill hammered 104 off 53 balls to chase down 215 with eight balls to spare, but Statz Cricket rates Vaibhav Suryavanshi as the match’s most impactful player after his stunning 96 off 47 rescued RR from 9 for 2. Two extraordinary innings – only one on the winning side. Full scorecard here.
First Innings – Rajasthan Royals: 214/6 (20 overs)
RR won the toss and elected to bat, but things went sideways immediately. Yashasvi Jaiswal fell for 1 off 2 balls in the first over, caught off the bowling, and Dhruv Jurel followed for 7 off 6 with just one boundary. At 9 for 2 after 1.5 overs, the Royals were in serious trouble.
Enter Suryavanshi. The teenager played one of the innings of the tournament – 96 off 47 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 204. He rebuilt with Riyan Parag (11 off 6) and then accelerated through the middle overs. His dismissal at 172 for 4 in the 18th over left a platform, and Ravindra Jadeja and Donovan Ferreira took full advantage.
Jadeja anchored the finish with an unbeaten 45 off 35 (5 fours, 1 six, SR 129) while Ferreira was utterly destructive – 38 not out off just 11 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 345. That 7th-wicket stand hauled RR from a useful position to a formidable 214 for 6.
Dasun Shanaka struggled for timing with 3 off 9, and Jofra Archer chipped in with a quick 7 off 4 before falling at 118 for 6 in the 13th over.
For GT with the ball, Jason Holder was the standout with 2 for 27 from his 4 overs at an economy of 6.75 – the only bowler to go under 8 an over. Kagiso Rabada took 2 for 35 (economy 8.75), while Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna each took a wicket but conceded 42 apiece from their 4 overs. Rashid Khan had a night to forget – 0 for 45 from just 2 overs at an economy of 22.5.
Second Innings – Gujarat Titans: 219/3 (18.4 overs)
215 to win. Gill and Sai Sudharsan made it look like a gentle training exercise. The opening pair put on 167 in 12.5 overs, tearing the RR attack apart from ball one.
Gill was imperious – 104 off 53 deliveries with 15 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 196. He drove, pulled and cut with total authority, picking gaps at will. Sudharsan matched him stroke for stroke with 58 off 32 (8 fours, 1 six, SR 181) before being dismissed hit wicket with the score on 167.
Gill fell LBW at 182 for 2 in the 15th over, and Washington Sundar contributed a brisk 16 off 9 (2 fours, 1 six) before being caught at 201 for 3. But by then the game was long gone. Jos Buttler (9 not out) and Rahul Tewatia (17 not out off 9, 2 fours, 1 six) knocked off the remaining runs without fuss.
RR’s bowlers had nowhere to hide. Nandre Burger was the most economical at 8.75 (1 for 35 from 4 overs), while Archer went for 45 from his 4 despite picking up a wicket. Brijesh Sharma conceded 44 from 3.4 overs, Tushar Deshpande went at 11.33, and Yash Raj Punja leaked 29 from 2 overs. Jadeja’s 2 overs cost 28. Nothing worked.
Statz MVP – Vaibhav Suryavanshi
The official Man of the Match went to Shubman Gill, and you can see why – a century in a successful chase is always going to catch the eye. But Statz Cricket disagrees.
Suryavanshi’s Statz rating of 116.28 edges Gill’s 110.41, and the numbers tell the story. Suryavanshi walked in at 9 for 2 in the second over with his team’s innings in danger of collapsing entirely. His 96 off 47 (SR 204) didn’t just rescue RR – it built a total of 214 that should have been competitive. The Statz rating, which calculates impact based on match context, recognises that Suryavanshi’s contribution under that kind of pressure was the single most impactful individual performance of the match.
Gill’s hundred was brilliant and match-winning, but he walked in with the target clear, the pitch flat, and time on his side. Both innings were special. Only one was played with the team on the floor.
Top 5 Statz Ratings
- Vaibhav Suryavanshi (RR) – Statz rating 116.28. 96 off 47, 8 fours, 7 sixes, SR 204. Rescued RR from 9/2 with one of the innings of the tournament.
- Shubman Gill (GT) – Statz rating 110.41. 104 off 53, 15 fours, 3 sixes, SR 196. Anchored the chase with a commanding century. Official Man of the Match.
- Donovan Ferreira (RR) – Statz rating 88.41. 38* off 11, 2 fours, 4 sixes, SR 345. Brutal late hitting that pushed RR past 210.
- Jason Holder (GT) – Statz rating 76.95. 2/27 from 4 overs, economy 6.75. The only GT bowler to exert real control.
- Kagiso Rabada (GT) – Statz rating 72.08. 2/35 from 4 overs, economy 8.75. Took key wickets alongside Holder.
Turning Point
RR were 9 for 2 after 1.5 overs. Both openers gone, the innings in tatters. Suryavanshi’s counter-attack – particularly his partnership that took the score from 9 to 172 – transformed a potential sub-150 total into 214. That should have been enough.
But the real turning point was the Gill-Sudharsan opening stand of 167 in 12.5 overs. It didn’t just keep GT on track – it rendered 214 entirely irrelevant. By the time Sudharsan was dismissed hit wicket, GT needed just 48 from 44 balls. The chase was never in doubt after the powerplay, and the partnership’s sheer velocity meant RR never had a moment to build pressure.
Match Context
This was match 73 of 74 – the penultimate league stage fixture of IPL 2026. Both teams had already secured their playoff spots before this match, which settled final standings.
GT finish 2nd in the table with 18 points (W9 L5, NRR +0.695), behind RCB on net run rate. RR stay 4th with 16 points (W8 L6, NRR +0.189). The top four – RCB (18pts, NRR +0.744), GT (18pts, NRR +0.695), SRH (18pts, NRR +0.524), and RR (16pts) – all head into the playoffs.
